I definately agree with this.

 

A landscape like the garden of eden or something, Jesus getting maced (sp) by a policeman. Does not make entirely sense to me. Perhaps you guys see some kind of clear symbolism?

 

If Jesus were around trying to spread his message today in public. I would say there is a good chance he could get maced by a policemen. If he did not obey the officers every order of course. Thats how I looked at it

clear as day to me. i saw it as a metaphor for the misunderstanding of the true essence of hippie culture today. long-haired unshaven barefoot man in a robe spreading peace & love meditating on a quest for the eternal truth, misunderstood as a goodfornothing lazy humbum.

Many westerners today frown upon/shun away long hair and barefeet, merely at a first glance, assuming whoever it is to be a dirty spanger/squatter/etc., but readily and gladly have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and savior. kind of ironic.

 

I see. Well, long hair is accepted more than ever around here. And I don't see Jesus as a hippie in the first place. It seems like a collage of random figures to me which striked me as humorous. I can see the cliché symbolism in there but I do not recognize such cop behaviour myself as typical. Perhaps in the 60's it would fit better, when there were hippies around. So yeah the symbolism can be seen but it just remains cliché nonsense to me. Like perceiving Jesus as a hippie.

He was not a hippie. You can attribute hippie aspects onto him but it does not make him one. And yeah, I know cops maced protesters and such once upon a time and that they ocassionally still use mace.

 

In terms of conservatism today, he was a hippie. There are a couple of political cartoons around depicting Jesus informing politicians about universal health care, and all the Republicans call him a socialist.

Well, if you take away labels and just look at them for what they are they basically promote the same ideals. Love everyone as you love yourself right? I'm dont want to get in a religious argument. But they share similar beliefs. Lol. More so than alot of "christians" Not that chrisitanity is bad, but when its being used to turn people against each other... eh.

 

I don't think christianity is bad either (it isn't all jolly neither), I just have the conviction that even though Jesus shared some of the same ideals it doesn't make him a hippie. I am not saying he didn't share those ideals though.
I think Jesus' depiction over the centuries also helps to see him as a hippie (long hair, sandals, beard etc.) which of course is totally superficial. We don't even know what he looked liked. So I always feel like giving my opinion when this Jesus is a hippie statement comes up. Excuses in advance
