I'll be happy to help mentor the Electrician's forum. Especially HAM radio.

This is cool.

I will mentor or Pilot's Forum if anybody is interested. Or just be happy to answer any questions on flying or aircraft.

So.....back to the mechanic's deal. I couldn't access the motorbike forum. So I'm gonna ask my question here.

I have a Honda Shadow 1100. I recently notices a small hole up at the first bend in one of the exhaust pipes. Up very near where the pipe exists the head, very close to the manifold. So, needless to say....we're talking extreme heat. This is at the first weld in the pipe from the initial bend exiting the manifold, to the rest of the pipe. Right at the lower edge of that part of the pipe that always turns blue from the heat. The hole is small...only about 1/8th inch diameter.

But I cannot find a product to seal it. Tried JB Weld's "Extreme Heat" putty. What a joke! Lasted for exactly ten minutes of riding. Tried another similar type product by Tiger Wrap. It also didn't last more than a couple rides. And no...I don't know how to weld.

Solder won't hold, will it?

Does anybody have a suggestion on how to seal this hole? Or do I have to bite the bullet and take it to the shop to get spot-welded? The hole really is not hurting a thing at present, but I know it will only get bigger. And the bike is otherwise pristine so the damn thing bugs me. It also makes a weird buzzing sound from the exhaust spilling out and colliding withe the wind resistance at over 45 mph.

Thanks guys!

Cheers/

A lot of motorcycles used to use double wall pipes. This makes them look bigger and helps stop bluing as the outer shell is cooler than the real pipe,  I don't know if the the Shadow uses that kind of pipe.

But anyway, the only way to fix it is to get it welded and the metal is going to be pretty thin and you'll burn off the chrome. That pipe gets pretty hot and the expansion and cooling will knock off JB Weld or any thin like that.

You could use exhaust pipe wrap or just look for used pipes.

Ten minutes of riding after how many hours of Curing?
Website says 8, I'd wait 24.

Solder will not.

Also, applying "Goo" wont stop the rust if it's inside the tube as well (And it is)

And have you checked into a replacement manifold cost-wise if the main issue is cosmetic in nature as yet?

Filling holes with a wire feed is by no means as hard as landing on mars or figuring out the means to get there in the first place.
