Homer Simpson's paradox: Homer becomes a pot head with medical marijuana and his Bible thumping neighbor Ned Flander's comes over one evening and reads passages of the Bible to Homer which exemplify God's powers as an all knowing, all powerful deity. Homer than prompts the paradoxical question "Could God microwave a burrito so hot that he himself cannot eat it?" Since God has all knowledge and all power we assume he can make a burrito so hot than no one else beside himself can eat but in regards to the question both possible outcomes to this question put into question God's all powerfulness.
A variation - "Everything I say is a lie". If everything I say is a lie, then the statement "Everything I say is a lie" is itself a lie... .
The present does not exist; but there can be no past or future without a present. It's pretty simple when put briefly -- there's a beginning, middle, and end to every moment. But every middle has a beginning, middle, and end. No matter what the scale - you can't get down to a moment that is "now", there's always the beginning, middle. and end. This proves that the present is a false concept; it's a completely unnecessary, false concept outside of conscious experience. Where the paradox comes in; if there is no present -- then how can there be a beginning and end?
Not a paradox actually, although it seems like one. If eternity is what is, then beginning or end do not matter. Present only matters if past and future do, if eternity is the way it is neither past nor future matter. Present is likewise an arbitrary concern.
Sure they do, because eternity is still a time. How can there be an eternity when there is no transition of events? Even if every moment is forever, how is there transition from one moment to the next? If there is no now, how can there be a moment? If there are no moments, how is there an eternity? The paradox basically proves that time makes no logical sense.
If you start out 10 feet from a wall and close the distance by half -then half again--ect------will you ever get to the wall?
No that is not a paradox, if all time is eternal then there is no beginning or end. Hence one moment to the next do not matter. Eternal has neither a beginning or an end. Moments matter little it's not a paradox, although some think it is. Mind you I Think time is as controversial as it gets. Concept it may be but on firm ground it is not.
Eternity is still an amount of time - made up of moments. Do you understand this? There being no now, no singular moments, contradicts the possibility of eternity. Just like if there was no water droplets, there could be no water, no water flow. Moments are the building block of time. This includes eternity.
Thats from a very personal perspective thought. Eternity is just ever flowing, you just perceive it and break it down as moments.
If it is flowing, it must be moving, which means it must be made up of movements. Those are called moments. The idea of eternity doesn't disprove time or transistion - that's an absurd leap.
