I don't know what happened to my other post but I'll try again.

WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF A HIPPIE

I like the idea of being a hippie, I wish I were born in the 60's, (I was born in 1984). I am just trying to sneak a little hippie into my soul. lol Tryin to find my idenitity!

The other thread was removed- "huh?" is not a descriptive title. This one is marginally better though it really doesn't describe the post.

As for the topic- I avoid labeling myself and would rather not excessively subject the term "hippie" to my own definition- but to me a true hippie is a free thinker- which to me disqualifies most people- including self-described hippies... as they've restricted their thinking to what they assume to be hippie.

A true hippie will defy definition. It's really not something you consciously adopt- it's something you either are or are not.

I like your reply. Thanks for giving me a heads up on how to title my threads. Also, I like that... a free thinker. Okay another question... would a "true hippie" have lived through the 60's or are there really new generation hippies?

if you're worried as to whether you're a hippie or not, or if you care if you are, then you're not.

kind of like being 'cool' in elementary school.

  5. There is no true definition - you are what you are, you are how you think, how you act. ;)

    :)

Your questions seem to be based on the premise that anyone can affix a definition of what a hippie is. To me that stretches it a bit but ironically furnishes a basis for a reply. Since I cannot affix a specific definition I must assume that there is not a time critical factor either which means you could have a true hippie born any time- before or after the 60's.

The key is that the person in question wouldn't care about the label- would most likely not define him/herself as a hippie.

Again, a hippie just is. It's not like a religion that people can convert to.

I get what you're saying.. I'm not wanting to "convert" or anything... I know I can't. lol Also I'm not worried about weather or not I am a hippie. I just want to be who I am.

I don't even know, what IS a hippie? And if it's a person who is peaceful and 'one with the world' then why must we label that? Why can't normal people have those traits without saying they are a hippie? I really hate labels...

The label "hippie" was thought up by the press and described only what the media thought it meant. I lived through the 60s in Canada and in San Francisco and I never met anyone who called themself a hippie. In the counterculture, "hippie" was a term of derision and ridicule. We called someone a hippie if they were trying too hard to be cool. We were who we were and we are still who we are and I don't see any need to define that. We called ourselves freaks, but I should think that each person would give you a different reason why.

I think the label alone is stereotypical and that annoys me. People can have the characteristics that may come under the label without needing to call themselves that.

My definition of a Hippie is one who is free of mind, body and soul.
