Reason I ask is that a lot of kids here seem to be doing it. They don't seem shy about it at all either.

Talking college age people. Seems almost as common as walking and texting.

Is it because between the internet and texting and computer games, etc., kids fingers HAVE to be doing something at all times now? Is it a silent rebellion against out-dated social mores?

Are they digging around trying to find the ON switch for their brains? :p

I'm fascinated (and almost feel like I'm missing out on something).

I like to pick it, than look at it than flick it.

I was always told that picking your nose would give you worms...

Well surely the only reason you'd do it wouldn't be fashion, would it? I mean, it feels nice. The only reason you formerly refrained from doing it in public was fashion, however - so if that's changed and picking your nose is now not considered uncool, then I'd say that's an advance in cultural sensibility. No?

That seems to be the usual ritual (looks at rOllinstoned's age) Ah hah! Maybe you can give us some insight s about all of this.

The looking at it part especially intrigues me. Now to me, being old and subject to the automatic cluelessness about coolness that comes with it, all boogers look pretty much the same.

What in particular are you kids looking for or hoping to find when you examine a nose goblin?

I believe that's an urban myth that's been debunked. It can give you brain damage if you get carried away though. think that one's still true.

Sometimes people with nose studs fiddle with them a lot and it makes them look like they're constantly picking their nose

Ya know, if you think about it, that makes perfect sense, Walsh.

So I'm going to stop thinking about it now.

It's still gross and it still makes the computer desks all sticky.

That makes sense in theory, but in reality...Nope, there's no mistaking it. When someone pushes their finger in past the first knuckle, it's picking.

Maybe, but these are college students. I don't think they can afford coke these days.

No, I'm guessing there's some deeper mystery at work here.

People are just slowly caring less what other people think. It's still considered "uncool" around here.

I'm not sure if we should consider that progress or regress. Less self-consciousnesses is good, but I have a feeling the nose picking epidemic is more a sign of basic unconsciousness.

    I can't. :(

Anyway I meant I was going to stop thinking reasonably about it. :D

It used to be people only picked their nose in public when they were in their cars... Poor kids can't afford a car, where else would they be able to pick their nose?

Ah hah! That's the most reasonable explanation so far, Tyrsonwood. And I would guess that picking ones nose on a skateboard would be asking for trouble.

I've always found having boogers in my nose to be very uncomfortable, and I've never had much success getting them out by just blowing it. I am not ashamed.
