Not having anything good to aid in cooking, yet not wanting to go and spend money on groceries or go out to eat...

    When nobody is home.

There are things thawing out... but not cookable.

    and it's depressing.
We never have food in the house, except for pretzels and iced tea.

you both have lyrics from the same song in your sig

    wanted to point that out

    and yeah, i hate that
not having any food to cook, much less having any to just eat

normally when i'm hungry i want food NOW

i don't want to go spend time buying it

I like cooking, especially for other people. I like making up big things of stirfry or pasta for me and my roommates or the girl I'm seeing right now, dunno. Other than dinner, I usually eat pretty simply though.

I'm thinking of trying to eat a hearty breakfast every day though. Bacon eggs, pancakes, french toast, hash browns... Breakfast is a pretty underrated meal.

    Breakfast kicks ass.

I usually go to a local bar for Saturday or Sunday breakfast. I chill with the old guys wearing the John Deere hats, watch CMT, talk about interesting pieces of farm equipment, and how we all used to live on local farms that quit making money because of Wal-Mart.

You can bet bacon, eggs, homemade biscuit, toast, grits, homefries, and coffee for $4.00

Vancouver has this really great all-day breakfast diner where you can still get a giant, non-chain, quality breakfast for under five bucks. Its just kind of out of the way at my new place.

Waffle House is the best chain breakfast place... though it's mostly a trucker thing and it gets weird, at times.

Biscuitville is a close second. Though only people who live GA, NC, SC, or VA would know about that one.

Cracker Barrel... I don't know. They're alright, but it depends on where you go. They can't make salad. You also never seem to see anyone there who is black, at least around here. I just wondered if it was because the place is called Cracker Barrel or that they supposedly discriminate.

I seem to have fallen into a routine. Bagel with garlic/herb cream cheese and either chai or earl grey tea. It does me well.

In response to the op; yeah, I often lack the money for food and end up eating plain bread and carrots, which I don't mind. But it's nice to have more exciting food now and then, certainly. Eating a balanced vegetarian diet can be pricey though...
