is anyone concerned about feeding the masses being rice is now being rationed as well as the cost of food as a whole is expected to increase by another 20% by july?

i mean i am seeing where food banks, churches, etc. are already having MAJOR problems feeding the poor.i know almost everyone i speak to is having trouble just putting food on there families table as well..

i know a certain percentage of food is donated outright from farms, etc.but i expect that percentage to be down this year.kitchens will be spending more on fuel to get there so that means less for food on top of the strain many of the non full time rainbows from kitchens will be experiencing from the soaring inflation.i also expect dumpsters to not yield near as much as in the past.as i know there will be increased competition due to the state of the economy..
so it would seem that the magic hat will have to be relied on more heavily this year. all this is purely speculation based on my knowledge of the current situation with food the economy and inflation of course.

that being said with wholesale clubs already rationing bulk purchases of rice and rumors flying that flour, soy and corn based products possibly being rationed by july as well, realistically does anyone besides me see a possible problem feeding the masses this year?

    discuss...

the wholesale clubs are affected by pannic buyers

do you not expect the rationing to funnel down to all stores? i personally do.

    but lets say your right,,

ok food is plentiful,,all staples(flour, rice, oils, beans) cost 40 to 120% more than last year, that coupled with the cost of fuel being up by at least 80 cents a gallon over last year,do you feel there will be enough cash to purchase food for everyone?

so we could quit eating rice in america then the price would go down . our growers would have to dump it on the world market . i've been learning to grow amaranth in the garden . it's nutritionally a good- enough alternative and easy to grow and harvest . personally i've been avoiding the grocery store altogether and eating more sunshine . rice has been a hippy staple - fuk it for now . get it out of our stores ! maybe you belong to a co-op ? think about it and then maybe you speak up as a member of conciousness . we ain't traditionally entitled to rice - we're culturally new and inately changable anyhow .

I think what the major global worry is about is in very poor countries; a lot of the population of poor countries is barely surviving, not like American barely surviving SUV and mortgage payments but watching your family starve to death from no food and die from not having $1.35 for anti biotic medicine.

The reason for the forecasted shortage is… They are turning a percentage of food growing fields into fuel growing fields which mean their will be a percentage less food, not no food but a percentage less. In America that means food will cost a percentage more.

I don’t think it will hurt the rainbow family to pay 30% more for rice. The family of 12 in Haiti yes they might have some serious problems. But the rainbow family no.

As far as rationing it is common for American people to freak out and go on consumer frenzy whenever there is a shortage of any thing. American consumer will stand in line all night long for an X box or Bennie babies, stupid.

Ethiopia, Haiti and a lot of very poor countries a lot of the population has been living off of surplus food which the governments have said will be cut off as part of the down sizing so if you are living off of UN rice you should be scared.

I really don’t think there is a need for people in developed countries to freak out because their will be 20%-30% less food.

There will still be food it will just cost a percentage more..

what about wyoming? all these things you speak of i agree with, however as we have planted amaranth this year,i can tell you it wont be ready for harvest by july..

im not really looking at the big picture at the moment i am wanting to stay focused on the reality of the economy the soaring inflation, the scarceness of free food, etc.and the effect it may very well have on the gathering

have you bought rice lately?? where does one come up with 30%?? rice is up over 120% of what it cost last year and is expected to go up a minimum of 20% over the next couple months.. and as tiko stated,, it is a "hippie staple"..

    i mean,,last i checked,most hippies aint made of money..

umm,, there are already people all over america suffering because of the soaring cost of food, food pantrys, curches, etc. are having trouble keeping there pantries stocked due to the increase in cost.there are people on this very forum having to choose between food and rent because of the soaring price of food..
dont be so naive as to say just because we are in america that food inflation rates of 20 to 30 % over the next couple years wont severely effect a large portion of the population, because it already is..

a part of that population being effected is rainbow, that is why i posed this question...

^I’ll have to admit 30% was a made up number, I buy a bag of rice once every 5 months so I don’t keep tabs of the prices, but even at 200% I still think the Rainbows will survive.

I do agree with the food pantries if you are living off of that you might have some shortage. When times get tight with donation food they usually just try to feed local women and children. But I think rainbows are used to dealing with that.

Dumpster veggies I don’t see much trouble with that store still have to throw away old veggies even if they cost more.

well i thank you for your opinion..
i invite all family to chime in on this because i feel its a worthy discussion.
perhaps im just a pessimist, but i feel it may prove to be a bigger challenge than many may think due to once again, the availability of free food, the increased competition for dumpster food due to the cost of food as a whole, the price difference of staples from last year as well as the lack of disposable income of family brought on by the soaring fuel and food costs..

i dunno,,.. id be interested to see what others think...

I do think we are in for some big changes as far as society as a whole and the rainbow family is connected to Babylon even if we don’t want to admit it.

Deep down I have a good felling about these changes and hope they will be positive ones in the big scale of evolution of the human race. The system has to die down a bit to go though a change and lack of oil will definably slow it down.

I think the family is very resilient and can adapt to changes very well, 30 years of guerilla living and gathering that is a lot of experience in change and survival.

every year we perform a miracle on the 4th the hat tends to bring in about 2000 2000 feeds 30,000 quite well
& i mean an overubundance usualy
rainbow economy will always remain strong because its not run on the same principles as world economy and is only slightly dependent on it
seperate we may struggle but together we can take care of family

the simple facts as i see them are,
the food that feeds those in the woods comes from babylon.
many in the woods contribute no monies or supplies only there labor and love.
getting there is going to cost about a dollar a gallon more than last year.
family that lives in babylon will have far less disposable income(as has already been stated by many in another thread in this forum) due to the economy as a whole therefore far less to contribute..

i dunno,,im all for having faith in family,, i just tend look at things a bit more analytically than most..

I will be bringing plenty of dried beans from the organic farm I'm living on, I really do hope everything will go just fine. The idea of the nation rationing our food has been quite the scary subject to me in the past few weeks, before it just seemed to me like some crazy conspiracy that the loons had been prattling on about. Now I have really seen truth in it and it makes me sick. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I have been trying to make some sense out of all my hopes and dreams for a more sufficient country, community and family. This whole ethanol deal is really fucking allot of folks out of their right to eat and something must be done. The majority of the population will not care at all about this until they themselves are barely scraping along, Maybe this will be a subject for quite a few campfire talks this year... and undoubtedly it will be.
Magical things can happen when everyone is pushing towards the same goal though, so I have confidence in this gathering being yet another beautiful example of rainbow love.

rainbow douse alot with very little

if we really cant eat we can fast for a week and hell hhb if what u expect to be true is what it is and things are desperate...
the hat can bring in enough to start buyin up thousands of acres to grow all we can..
i really dunno why we dont got thousands of acres as a family already except then havin to be official in some way
but rhats been gotten around b4 ..property i mean as in a kitchen bus registered to "everybody"

if babylons fallin all around us then nows the time to come together and fulfil prophesy find a way to start rebuilding and fixing everything so everryone can start to work together and get the job done

I agree HHB. We are feeling it here in babylon now for sure. The food bank I vonunteer at is struggling and several have had to close in the area because the food distributors cant afford the fuel to deliver to the banks and pantrys. To add to it this is a very poor logging community and need all the help we can get for these families. The cost of food goes up but any little help you can get from the Government isnt going up with the cost. More and more people are showing up every week and the end of the month here is unbelievable.
I also see the real posibility of seeing food shortages at the gathering and anyone that just sits back and doesnt start preparing for it now may be sorry later.
This is a real issue now.

thank you for your input rainbowtoke. its nice to see someone who is actually involved in the "free food" system chime in with a reality check to those living on faith in family without weighing the true facts of the situation.

i personally feel bringing it to the forefront of discussion now will help to ease any problems the family may face come july..

this is a VERY REAL problem, and lets face it,the family is still a microcosm of babylon and last i checked,we dont shit food...

just think about the cost of 1 supply run,gas is already 75 cents a gallon more here than it was last year. by all estimates it will be at least a dollar more a gallon by july..

a 50 mile one way supply run could very easily wind up costing 25 bucks round trip,,or more.. it all ads up quicker than some think...

wow,, i just figured gas from here to jackson hole wyoming at 4 dollars a gallon it would cost us 485 dollars in fuel,1 way..

there are two of us,with gear we would have room for one other rider.. thats almost a 1000 bucks 3 people would have to have just to get there,,..

theres no way we could justify that expense with the economy the way it is even if we could get away from the farm for a couple 3 weeks..

i dunno,, maybe theres a buncha rich ass rainbows ive never met..

all the years i been in an outta rainbow i aint never met but a handful though...

Some online news Site's are showing a map of the US with States already showing DANGER signs of economic trouble. Check them out before u kno hoo pulls them.

Large stores and Mom & Popper's have rice to the ceiling and case's in the back (Yes I asked and looked)..BUT we just had 4.2 million Snowbirds, vacationers and sun-Bum's "Go Back Home". Glad they didnt take all the food with them but I feel for the States they are returning to.

I visit Central Florida Food Banks several times a month for the last 7-8 years. They have ALL been falling short of intake since 2000.

Time for teaching will soon be over folks....Then its time for SURVIVAL.

Sad but true....... I've been telling the world since the 60's since my first SAVE THE _______ (Insert your own choice: Whales, Tree's, Ocean's, etc).

I have seen the world FASTLY turn into a trash can over the last 40 years. Am I the only one that noticed it...........?
