It would just be weird. I had two uncles with the same name...and that was weird enough.

 

I don't think it would bother me actually.
My sibling have really common names though-I have had many friends with the same name as them.

That almost happened to my brother! His gf of 3 years is called Eleanor, and I was orignally meant to be called Eleanor

It makes me laugh thinking about how awkward it would have all been if my mum didn't have that change of heart...

 

My husband has the same name as my brother...

But it doesn't bug me.

I know they're not the same person. Duh.

 

I went out with a guy who has the same name as my (deceased) uncle.

My mother-in-law just about had a fit about the name I chose for our son...apparently her mother's second husband who was a jerk had the same first name, but didn't even go by that name. He used his middle name.
My opinion: who the fuck cares? I will name my kid whatever I decide.

 

It's just a name not your actual sibling...it doesn't mean that everyone named your relative's name has some of their DNA...

 

On the freak scale dating someone who has the same name as your sibling is about a 1.5

I would donkey punch someone with the same name as my sister.

I understand what you're saying, my younger brother has a very common name and when I meet someone with his name my mind doesn't automatically make me think of my brother, but that is just me and I think it's because his name is so common that I hear it all the time...

 

Yeah my brother's name is pretty common and I don't know other then maybe when I first met my husband and thought "oh my brother's name" I never thought of it again.... espiecially not during sex.. haha.

 

I could never date a "Chad"...that would just be weird, to me. Maybe it's because I really don't like my brother all that much...*shrugs*

 

You know, you got me thinking because I have two brothers and my older brother is someone who I don't ever want in my life and so I thought "could I ever date someone with his name" And I don't know, I know what I said earlier but the above post got me thinking and brought up a good point actually...

 

The guy I'm interested in has the same name as one of my cousins. I never even think about it....it's a name. But I guess I wouldn't want to be with a girl named Hope. I can see where the sibling connection would make it weird....but not just any relative.

 

probably not. maybe if they were truly amazingly astounding. thankfully my guy (who is truly amazingly astounding) doesnt have the same name as any family members (which admittedly, the only close family members are 'slim', 'tim' or 'doug')
