I know its asking a lot of this place but try and be serious

you know every so often someone talks about ending it all and suicide and we invariably get the 'you'll be deeply missed' supportive comments

and the 'there are other ways' constructive comments

and the 'oh grow up' couldn't care less comments.

I'm just wondering how would you feel if someone actually did it, we heard from someone else two days after they started the thread that they had gone through with it?

I would applaud them, it does take lots of will-power.

No one, and I repeat, no one (unless they are a complete regular here) can be persuaded to not commit suicide by a bunch of strangers on a forum if that person is honestly and seriously considering suicide.

He needs to hear from his close friends, family, and loved ones. I can tell any random stranger over the internet that I love them blah blah blah, but that would make little difference. We share no emotional connection, we share no past, we share no experiences, we share no feelings... we have no connection.

do you think people on the internet could persuad someone who was considering doing it, to do it, by joking about it?

Yet again, no. That person is angry with people he actually knows, or most likely with himself... random strangers usually cannot push such emotional buttons. It would have to be an extremely special case.

But yet again... serious suicide contemplators do not seek random strangers who do not know them to talk them out of it.

I would just get bloody anoyyed if I truly wanted to commit suicide and had a bunch of damn hippies telling me "Man, it's not worth it, I love you, blah blah blah" as pretty as it sounds... it's insignificant. People do not look for such general advice and pretty words from strangers when they are in such deep depression, believe me.

are you sure about that with random strangers, people who want to commit suicide will often call a help line and speak to soeone they feel is going to be unbiased, I.E there friend may try and talk them out of it and I think its easier talking to strangers, so going on the net I think would be the same

I would hate to have someone I care about kill themself. but if someone's mind needs release to the extent that it totally overrides the body's deep-rooted instinct of self-preservation...

I don't know. I think one should do their best to stop someone else from commiting suicide, but if they truly want to, what can anyone else truly do?

I cannot stand suicide hotlines, I think that they are some of the most useless services available. The people who work there care much less than even the people on this forum, they just give systematic answers... it's terrible.

Talking to stragers about something can indeed be easier, but will a stranger truly understand something so personal without knowing the person? People are not only thier thoughts, and thoughts are sadly the only thing that can be expressed over text. (Or thoughts of feelings and so on, but I think that you know what I mean)

I hear what you are saying, although I think its a mistake to think that what we say on the forums can't have a powerful effect on someone

That smily makes me feel suicidal. It reminds me of the French Revolution. I'm 1/5634634543th French, so I feel very strongly about the issue and it truly depresses me to see through what my extremely distant relatives went through.

I'm gonna go guilutine my head off just to feel their pain.

    Oh happy blade!

Not on a complete stranger, no.

Remember, most people do not percieve other posters on forums as actual people.
