It's called trespassing. I don't think it's wise. Not everyone gets their last wish.

Why not find some nice campground and have a big party, spread the ashes when no one is looking.

Yeah I agree I seriously doubt my Dad would want us break in the law and trespassing and somebody else’s property

we have no idea if these people have trail cams I think about it if you lived all the way down in Florida and you have a camp in Michigan I would think that you would have cameras just with the distance

If the camp is in Michigan, why not go up there, hire a small plane (and pilot!) and fly over the area of the camp, and let out the ashes as you fly over. That way you won't be seen by trail cams, and you won't be trespassing on their property, but your dad's ashes will fall like gentle rain over the entire area.

Why not buy a beautiful rose bush, and mix the ashes with the potting soil? With care, the rose could last for 20+ years.

You can inquire of owners and ask. Just my thoughts. ;-)

My Dad kept his parent's ashes in his desk drawer at work for years.

Finally he decided enough was enough, so he got a friend of the family who was a pilot to fly over St John in the USVI, and he spread the ashes over the jungle and beaches there, fulfilling their wish.

I know hiring a plane these days is pretty expensive, so perhaps going out on the lake is a better idea?

Hope a solution comes along and you can be freed of having the ashes hanging around.

Meanwhile, I hope all is well for you @Jennifer19!

I don't think I'd be. But I'm not everybody. Perhaps you can still do it in a nearby natural area?

Sorry for all my typos.. I looked at my post... my excuse is I was watching the Eagles vs Cowboys game.

I would try to fulfill the last wishes by making a series of plan.

Ask permission, if given you are good.

If not, as Whirlwind pointed out go to a nearby natural area. Michigan has many parks and natural area. Most can be found online.

Another option, stop at the nearest town. Have a meal and ask around. You have winning odds that someone will help you. You might even form a new friendship.

Please let us know how things go
