Today I witnessed my editor waisting company time to schedule an appointment with her hair dresser and spent 15 fucking minutes on the phone describing what she "needed" to have done and why. This after a 4 fucking day weekend, and a dentist appointment this morning that I'm pretty sure was absolute bullshit. Can someone please explain to me why some people think this shit is okay? If I was her boss I would fire her ass in a second - and chew her ass all the way out the fucking door.
My theory is that a lot of people are living in their own personal fairytale where they're the Prince/Princess and everything and everyone in their little private Kingdom is there for them (and come on: anybody who takes 15 minutes to order a haircut over the phone has got a pretty advanced case of Princess syndrome). In a way, I've always envied these people: I'm one of those hyper-responsible workers who basically has to be on death's door before I'd think about flaking on my job: showed up to work with an abssesed tooth once and then covered part of somebody else's shift because that particular princess had had one-to-many at the Royal Ball the night before. And this was for a friggin disposable gas station job. So when I see somebody treating their job like a hobby, with a "who cares, let someone else do it" attitude, in a way I envy the lack of stress they impose upon themselves, even though it means some sucker like me is going to have to wind up taking up the slack.
lol The sad part is she probably wouldn't have caught that shit, as much as I'd love to let her proofread this rant.
It's a small (local) newspaper (rag). One of the few left in my neck of the woods that hasn't been swallowed up by some giant corporation, which is one of the few reasons I don't fucking quit.
I care because I have to listen to her loud ass, annoying fucking voice and answer her fucking calls when she's yapping away, both of which interfere with me getting my work done. It's a very small office with an "open" layout and this is the type of person who seems to take delight in making sure that everyone in the office can hear the sad details of her personal life.
I have expressed my displeasure with this kind of behavior in the past - which is one of the reasons I get so furious about it. It's clear to me that this person simply doesn't give a shit about anything beyond what is encompassing her flitting attention span at any given moment.
Yeah, that can cause some serious frustrations here as well. I'm lucky I don't have such people around me on a daily basis at the moment.
Who is her boss? Maybe that person needs to know about her work habits. I've noticed over the years that people will slack off to whatever degree they can so long as they get away with it. Nowadays things have changed esp. at big corporations who can monitor your workflow down to the keystroke, not to mention spy on your web browsing and emails. So that kind of crap can still only happen in small bizes or bizes that make so much money they don't care how ppl goof off. It's been said that most ppl spend a big portion of their worktime on the Internet or cellphones now doing everything but work. If you go to other countries where people don't have the American work ethic, nobody cares! You can goof off and it's practically part of the job! It that Protestant thing, you know... That's why God invented hippies. To show ppl how to goof off right!
Selfishness. Complete disregard for others. I just can't get my mind around these concepts. It has always, and will always infuriate and mystify me.
