I must say... working in an office isn't that bad. Of course I have to wear my dress pants and a dress shirt with a tie, but I'd rather sit on my ass all day and look like a goof than be on my feet all day wearing whatever I want.

I'm in customer service for a big company, and it's not all that bad... 8 hour days with 2 breaks and a lunchbreak.

Anyone else work in an office and love it?

What kind of credentials do you need for such a job? I was wondering because I plan on such a stint if Uni. doesnt work out for me.

i work at a coffee shop, where i smoke with my boss, get free food, fuck around on the internet and get paid 8 an hour plus arond 2-4 an hour in tips. And i found out today that im going to be a manager once spring/summer rolls around. Im preatty proud of myself considering i have only worked there 3 months and im 16. And the promotion comes with a raise. ;) Hell to the yeah.

I work at a dairy queen, my boss knows I smoke. I smoke with some of the other coworkers while at work, sometimes inside!(people can't walk inside the store, it's a walk up window) I've been there for 4 years and love it.

you'll quickly find the jobs where you get your hands dirty are also the jobs that pay shit. Unfortunately, the guy watching all of the lower guys get their hands dirty, is making more money with less work. So, in conclusion, more money, less work.

This is not necessarily true. With many crafts such as welding, plumbing, electricians, utility lineman or other journeyman level trades, it's the guys out there working with their hands and getting dirty that are making the money. Most office staff are support people such as buyers, administrative support or customer service and make far less than the trades people. The actual managers of course make a higher base salary, but even then with worker overtime they may actually find themselves making less annually or, as salaried management working overtime without extra pay, making less per hour.

As for the original post about working in an office, I would much rather be working outside with my hands, even in the cold, that spend my day in an office pushing paper. As the senior telecom guy for my company I am finding myself with more management office duties and I find a day in the office much more of a drag than climbing utility poles all day.

I'd rather shoot myself than work in an office.

I plan to be a teacher, but currently the only work that actually gives me some sense of fulfillment is real, down to earth, physical labour. It makes me feel alive.

first. people that get there hands dirty, construction, brick point..yada yada yada; well they make really good money. But the long term effects aren't great. Bad joints and all that crap. But with an office job you're just lazy. So you can't win really.

I personally work in an office, and i do not like it. I work in the copy/service center. Basically, i'm everyone's bitch. And it' makes me love that joint a whole lot more at the end of the week
