I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong section but I couldn't find one which suited this topic specifically. Okay, so basically, I've been devising a scheme to try and get my friends to at least consider the hippie way. Basically, they're very modern, pro-war, anti-love people who consider hippies a bunch of drugged-up, dirty, useless crazies. A while back, I watched a hippie movie presented in a modern way. The modern presentation of it associated then with now, and bridged the gap between me and them, if you understand what I mean? It allowed me to see that I was very much like them in spite of being born in a different era. So I've been thinking of making a video about Woodstock with some modern music (probably Miley Cyrus or something I know they like) to help my friends understand the message of love we hippies spread. At the moment they're clueless as to why I'm so devoted to 'this whole hippie thing' as they call it, because they haven't had the opportunity to experience the love. I'm pretty sure that they'll be able to relate more if I use their music with some Woodstock/hippie clips. Anyone get where I'm coming from? What do you think? I'll post up the video once I'm done with it.
Well good luck, it can be tough though, not everyone will see what its all about. But you might be able to open an eye or two, cant hurt to try.
the best way to get people change is, not by what you preach but, by good role modeling. a lot of people still think hippies never bathe or brush their teeth and, carry fleas on themselves wherever they go. what your planning might work over the long run (months or years.) don't expect people to change over night. it takes time to change; sometimes it take years or decades and, sometimes, people never do change. people are individuals one approch never works for everyone. just don't hold your breath, if you think, just doing what your planning will work on all of them... it won't. it might work for one or two of them. then again, it may not work for any of them. it just might come to pass that, you might need to leave those people behind and, go out and find some people who will accept you for you. whatever happens, i wish you the best of luck!
Thanks you guys. I've made some of the video, and it looks okay so far, I'm just hoping I can present it in a way they'll relate to. I'll post it up ASAP. Yeah, that's true blackcat. Hopefully I'm a good rolemodel, they know I'm clean to the point at which they're willing to sleep in the same bed as me (in a totally non-sexual way of course ) and they accept me, they're just cautious because they don't fully understand what I'm all about and I'm hoping this will open their eyes a little.
Haha. Her newest song's the current tear-jerker on their list, so that's the one I'm using. It would be an okay song if she wasn't singing it.
I've finally finished my 'first draft' of the video - tell me what you think! I'm open to suggestions on how it could be improved. I know the quality of the footage is terrible, but it's the best I could find and besides, it's about the message, not the footage. http://tinypic.com/r/348h937/5
remember, you have to be the change you want to see in the world! and keep a positive mind... by emanating positive energy you give it to others around you, and draw more to you
I liked it...I was surprised that the I liked the song too sidenote...does tinypic show up in spanish for everyone or did I screw something up
First draft?? It was great! I can't see one single thing that needs changing. It made me wish I was there! -------------------------- Edit: Oh look, my 420th post!
It will not work if they're consciously pro-war and do not feel like loving the rest of mankind. Modern? Hippies were modern in the sixties. What's the problem, they're too materialistic or something? Also, being very much like the original hippies does not necessarily make you one. Unless you feel the urge to see yourself like one perhaps. But being anti-war and want to change the world with love and such rise above 'being a hippie' in my opinion. Ah well, not a big deal Last but not least, some hippies are just a bunch of drugged-up, dirty, useless crazies. Nothing you can do about that
Thanks Justin! I'm almost done with draft number 2, which flows a little better. I'll post it up shortly! It's not really conscious so to speak...they're just pro-war because they've grown up around wars and don't see the point in attempting to change anything. Modern as in anything that came before 2005 isn't worth their time. What I meant by being very much like them is that I'm passionate about love, peace, nature, music, herbs, mind expansion, etc.
Damnit I made a post but it didn't made it to the page... Bottomline was if you like them opening up to those things you're passionate about it's smart to bring it to them in a modern way indeed, but not necessarily by relaying it back to the woodstock stuff which might have the wrong effect. Keep it current. Don't use hippie cliché's like peace and love the world because they generally don't buy that.
Aren't peace and love a huge part of what hippies are about though? They won't pay attention to me telling them about this stuff personally because they think I'm a total nutcase. I figured they'd respond well to a video because TV and modern music is pretty much all they're interested in. Any other ideas? Anyhow, here's the finished product, I've altered it a little: http://tinypic.com/r/2qizj89/5
Not bad at all I have heard about Miley Cyrus, but I think that is the first time I have actually heard her. Have your friends seen the video yet?
I appreciate what you're trying to do. It seems like a creative endeavor but at the same time it is playing into steriotypes that people have about hippies. If you are over a certain age and consider yourself a hippie they view you as a loser, nutjob, dinosaur trying to relive your glory days. If you are below a certain age you are viewed as having a romantic inkling towards somewhere you never were. It's great to think about Woodstock and think it was all peace, love and happyness. But there was also the Berkeley Riots, Altamont, Kent State, Assasanations, Napalm, Agent Orange, PTSD. Part of the reason your friends are so pro war is the fact that the footage of the war has been sanatised and propagandised. Your friends don't see the bodies piling up. They don't have friends and relatives coming home and pulling guns on their loved ones for rolling over on them during the night thinking it's "Charlie" trying to slit their throat in their sleep. I grew up in the shadow of a Naval Air Station during the cold war. I remember being told that ther Russians were going to bomb us any minute. It is that fear and paranoia that is almost missing today. Peace Out, Rev J
