yeah I especially love it with dark side of the moon. My favorite movie is either pokemon or the Wall, tho-
good point dark side with wizard is great.check it out on my myspace @ www.myspace.com/lunastarbright
i have been told that it was/is a great movie....but i have never seen it...but then again there are many movies that i haven't seen that people say is a disgrace to the history of filmmaking
Epynomous Film that starts in black & white which represented the dull gloom of the Depression/1930s to the Technicolor arrival in Oz;-hence the arrival of the 1940s & hope for a better future. The sheer bravado of the film is it's attraction. Many think this was the first 'head' film:falling asleep in a poppy field etc.
Love it. Haven't seen it in many years though. Don't watch much tv anymore. Every time something I want to see is coming on, I make myself a mental note, and then, forget it. That's how mental it is. Ha ! Anyway, I'd love to watch it again. Especially loved that cowardly old lion. Always wanted to slap him out of his depression though.
"The Wizard of Oz" is my all-time favorite movie, and I own a collection of approximately 700 video movies! I first saw this movie when I was a young child, and it absolutely mesmerized me then. The movie evokes much symbolism and delivers moral messages right and left. To a child, the adventure that Dorothy embarked upon can be perceived as real, and it contained scares, excitement, heart, kindness, right-versus-wrong lessons .... the whole ball of wax, you might say! The general theme of the story was an ingenious idea, and the utilization of the segue from black & white into color is ingenious as well. All throughout my life, I have referred back to and recalled lines from this movie and applied them to given situations! Lines like, "Ohh, I don't think there's anything in that little black bag for me;" said Dorothy to the Wizard. I think my favorite line is said by the Wizard to the Tin Man in response to the Tin Man requesting a heart ... the Wizard says, "A heart? You don't know how lucky you are not to have one, my friend. They will never make a perfect heart until they make one that can't be broken." And, the lesson that Dorothy learned from the whole scenario was revealed in her statement, "If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard, because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with." Good stuff for a kid to be learning. Yeah, good stuff for a kid to be learning ....... that's something that you'll find in movies from the early to mid 1900's - I really favor older movies because they were made during a time when it was believed to be important to convey a good moral message - subsequently, people learned good things from the movies of yesteryear. I think this is a very important way that media can positively influence our society. I avoid movies like "Friday the 13th" or "Chain Saw Massacre" because they don't hold entertainment value for me - they just frighten me. Paying money to see a movie that will frighten me is not what I think of as good solid entertainment value. Besides the fact that demonstrating the horrid ways in which man can cause his fellow man harm is not something I would want to watch or want my kid to be learning. "The Wizard of Oz" was a wonderdul combination of fantasy and reality - the adventure that was Dorothy's dream was filled with unreal aspects while it delivered real situations to deal with, and real moral messages to be learned. Incidentally, it hired every midget that was in the Actor's Union Guild! This was a great thread, Voodoo Chile - thanks! Oh, to be a child again ...... Sincere Regards, Michaela ____________________________________________________ "They will never make a perfect heart until they make one that can't be broken." I still haven't seen this movie, though I think I own it. I've only seen the part with the stork, where there was a supposed hanging. My friend and I wanted to see if it was true or not--it was most definitely a stork or some other type of bird, man.
i haven't seen this movie yet.. all i remember about Wizard of Oz is.. there is a tin man.. a scare croW!!.. am i right??..
i hate this movie now. i watched it so many times, that it repulses me now. that, and the movie, Mary poppins.
Its my favourite movie of all time too, as far as I'm concerned it's the perfect child movie, it always makes me happy, I know it sounds silly, but I think every child should gorw up with the same wonder of the world that Dorothy has as she explores Oz. The world seems to be a slightly better place for a while after I have watched The Wizard of Oz. Although it certainly has the darker more adult aspects to it.
