Anybody had their wisdom teeth taken out? I would be very interested to hear of the aftermath...the amount of pain suffered etc. I am cacking it
It's not that bad, I had all 4 taken out at once, and they gave me all of the opiates before the surgery since I had to wait just over a week, so once the surgery was done I had run out of the pills and they couldnt prescribe me anymore! So I had to deal with it sober lol. Really, it was nothing close to what I was expecting, just a little sore and lots of bleeding. Dont worry it's not bad
you'll be fine i had mine cut out and it didnt hurt that badly. The best thing about it is that you get pain pills . O the only thing that sucks is eating, i ate a shit ton of milk shakes, smoothies and pears and peaches ground up in the blender.
Oh, well trust me as long as the operation goes smoothly you will be ok The pain isn't what bothered me, it was more when I woke up to see how much blood had leaked out of my mouth onto my pillow and blanket, I am the biggest baby when it comes to seeing my own blood spilling in large amounts Do you have a boy/girlfriend or at least a friend or family member to help you out while you are still loopy and hurting? My ex helped so much, she even called out of work that day to watch our son because I couldnt get up and hold him I was so wacked out from the shot they gave me
I had all four out at the same time and 2 were impacted so they had to get in my jaw...since they were already there I thought 'What the hell, why not get a chin implant to balance out my huge forhead'. I got viccodin without tylenol in the strongest strength availible (I have a history of addiction so they would not give me oxy or percs). I felt no pain and as soon as my mom went to work the next day I drove and went to the tanning salon and the afterwards went swimming...not the best idea high on viccodin but I felt normal and felt no pain. About a week later when they changed my meds to darvocet I was in horrible pain. It took a good month to feel better-but my case was a bit severe. I would ask for oxy or percs and if they won't give you that then vicodin...don't let them stick you with a crappy drug because you'll feel unesssecary pain. and ice your jaw. I only did the first day and because I didn't the subsequent days I took longer to heal. hugs and good luck!
My experience, with all my wisdom teeth impacted, was that I stayed pretty comfortable. Medicine afterwards kept pain very very manageable, and although I was just supposed to be "sedated" for the procedure, I was out cold. It DID take me a full week to be okay with eating real food (especially spicy stuff), but otherwise it was fine. I was also off of heavy painkillers in all of a day or so, and could survive just fine on tylenol + ibuprofen, and just had to be careful not to have an empty stomach for the ibuprofen (harder on a mush diet). Ice up well, that helps too! And for contrast, my brother: was eating real food within two days, did not swell up at ALL, and had no pain. So I did fine, and my brother did amazing. In short: Not too much to worry about! Good luck!!
Yea man I coudl't even talk, and I dont remember the ride home at all I think they gave me some heavy opiates as well as the regular knoock out shit. THe last thing I remember when they were putting me out was being asked how I felt, and I mumbled something about LSD and a grateful dead concert
It wasn't that bad for me, I had my bottom two taken out because my top ones haven't come in yet. But I also got dry-socket and that sucked. They knocked me out nicely and gave me percocets. I was pretty happy.
I went to the hospital to have mine taken out under general anesthesia. I woke up halfway through the operation and the dentist said "she can't possibly be awake" so I started screaming and cussing so loud, my mom said she could hear me in the waiting room. My lower wisdom tooth was impacted, and so far back in my jaw that they had to cut through the jaw muscle to get it out, and then my mouth had to be wired shut to prevent tearing the stitches. When we got home, I was so loopy from the drugs I couldn't find the front door of our house and was just wandering around the yard, bumping into the bushes. I was quite out of it for a while, but the pain afterwards was nothing like the pain I was in before having them removed.
Woah, that's an uber-traumatic story there mama! I went for my pre-op assessment today and I had originally chosen to go for sedation rather than General Anaesthetic because I didn't want to go under if it wasn't necessary, but now I have changed my mind and am going under. They could tell that I'm terrified though and are being extra nice, they're even going to anaesthatise me like a child...with the numbing stuff first and then the anaesthetic. I still can't help getting upset about it though. Thank you to everyone who has made a comment, they have been extremely helpful.
Yeah if they're not impacted you have a better chance of being absolutely fine. I've heard of people taking a long time to recover but my experience was fantastic. My whole mouth was numb after the thing and that was kind of interesting, and my boyfriend brought me sorbet, a movie, and a cozy pillow and I didn't even need the vicoden, I just took the ibuprofen to prevent the little pain I had.. Okay I didn't mean to brag or maybe I did but it may go wonderfully is all I'm saying!
So it's all been done. Wasn't as bad as I thougt it was going to be, however I was still not happy to be going under GA. Nevermind... all over now and here is one of them....
I AM A DENTAL PROFESSIONAL depends on you situation..all 4 of mine were impacted and had to be cut out of bone....and it was probably one of the harder cases... it was ok.. not much pain...cause i was so high on hydrocodone i had a week long vacation of feeling good w/ a swollen and brusied face! i'm gald all went well for ya but were u under GA or was it intravenious..that is different..ur not under..u can still talk walk etc..do what they tell you..u just black out and don't remember...generally that is what they use for 3rd molar ext..
