i'm just wondering why some people are worried about their food being cooked on the same grill as meat and such. i mean, do you not like the taste? if you're vegetarian or vegan for ethical reasons, theres no element of cruelty in your food being in contact with meat or where meat once was. i dont understand it. i suppose for some people the thought of eating meat is very disturbing, but you arent! just because you internalize something that has a vague connection to meat doesnt mean you're doing any harm to another creature. i just dont understand it. i'm not saying your concerns are at all wrong, i just cant see things from your point of view and would like some feedback on why you feel this way. i'm a vegetarian and i'm trying to eat mostly vegan food whenever possible (i suppose not very inconvenient would be a better way to put it) and it doesnt bother me in the least to pick the chicken off my salads and the bits of pork out of baked beans. i just don't see the issue.

I can taste even the tiniest bit of dead animal juices. I also don't like picking chunks of dead animal out of what I'm going to eat.
Let's say someone grilled a huge slab of human meat on a grill, and then wants to grill your veggie burger in the same spot. Personally, I couldn't eat it, for the same reasons I wouldn't want something grilled where a non-human was grilled. It disgusts me.
Also, after picking the chicken off your salad and pork out of your beans, what do you do with it? By simply accepting the food with meat on it, you are supporting animal cruelty by demand.

well i'm vegetarian for health reasons, not ethical. and yes, were a piece of human flesh grilled on the same grill as my veggie burger, it wouldnt bother me. i'm not eating human flesh. this may be a bad analogy, and i know its stupid, but if someone put their hand on the grill by accident and left it there because they had no nerve endings in their hand, would you eat a patty grilled there? i only brought that up because its similar to your question posed to me and its the first thought that popped into my head. but as far as the meat i pick off of my food, all my friends are omnivores and they usually eat it. some things have small bits of meat in them before the restaurant receives them or makes them ready to serve, i'm not going to ask a waiter or cook to sort through my entire meal look for trace amounts of meat when i can do it myself, they have better things to do. i understand your point of view though, and i can't argue with your reasoning.

I'm vegan and prefer my food not to have been touched by flesh.

I don't think it's bitchy to ask for something to be cooked seperately.

    they think so... usually

ever work in the food industry? most cooks i know want it one way, the way they know, and fuck you if you want it different.

of course this always changes if you have money... bastards.

Well we're clearly coming at this from total opposite perspectives, so to an extent we'll have to agree to disagree.

There is no way I could 'just pick the meat out'. Partly because meat repulses me, and also the ethical principle of it; I would still have been given and accepted meat. Which goes against my principles and I feel it also sends a mixed message to whoever is providing the food; that they don't have to make an effort because vegetarians aren't really that serious. They wouldn't serve meat [and get away with it] to someone who had an allergy or it was against their religion; I don't see the diffrence between that and long term commited veg*an, as meat is against my beliefs and would make me ill.

Just sharing a grill ... that is really quite gross, and sometimes you can tell. At home [living with omni family] I'll cook my food first/seperately, and at friends' houses they do that too. I rarely eat out at resturants, but generally let it go.

My boyfriend doesn't understand it either.. I just think meat is weird and gross. If I'm at a restaurant I obviously can't control it so I just deal with it. When people are having cook outs though I just wrap whatever I have in foil so who cares?

replace the words meat and chicken with puke and poop.

    Get it?
animal flesh is not food to us.
Any more than a used Kleenex would be.

I have a legitimate allergy to all pork & shellfish. And yes, even having my food cooked on the same grill would be enough to cause me to go into anaphylactic shock.

I understand that not everyone has reactions quite this severe to deal with, but even if it's *ONLY* going to make you nauseous... isn't that enough of a reason to want your food cooked on a clean surface? I wouldn't like to feel ill every time I ate!

having an allergy is an EXTREMELY good reason to not want your food in contact with those things. and if something makes you nauseous, thats a good reason as well. i guess my point of view is just that of someone who chooses to avoid meat (and eggs and dairy as of today) but could eat them if so inclined. i apologize for my ignorance and fully respect any dietary choices anyone makes, be they omnivores, vegetarians or vegans.

yea youre not eating human flesh but your eating another animals flesh AND another animals juices! they were alive , just as you are alive! Equality is how i think of it... Animals, Humans = EQUAL!!!! everyone EQUAL! it would bother me! And, Im raw vegan for health reasons, I know if even the smallest bit of something meat like gets into my food, I can tell.
