so people on here are always saying Dont take your jewelry out if the piercing gets infected? why not? my nose got infected a couple days ago, so i decided to just clean it a million times a day and use salt water, its almost completely healed now and the sweeling around the jewerly is almost non existant. which im reallly happy about because i LOVE my nose ring and it would suck to have to take it out. BUT what happends if you take it out? i took my lip ring out when it got infected ( if this one i have now gets infected. ill jsut do what ive done with my nose ring now that i know it works) and it healed up really quick and all. so why not?
Here's the problem: If your piercing gets infected [especially if it's through tissue and NOT cartilage], there's a major risk of the piercing closing up with the infection still inside it. Once it closes up, there's no way for you to treat the infection unless you open the wound back up. Not a pretty situation.
I've seen a lot of people take out infected piercings and just stop cleaning them. The hole closed and they had a hard ball of infection in the piercing....with no way to get it out. It looks pretty gross and looks painful, too.
What everybody else has said is correct. Basically, for an infection to occur, two things must be preset: a pathogen(germs from your hands, dirty water, whatever), and a port of entry(a fresh piercing or a tear in a healed one) For an infection to get better, two things must happen: the pathogen must be eliminated(via warm saline, soap, antibiotics), and the existing infection must be able to escape(via the hole maintained by the jewelery. So, if you take the jewelery out, there is a good chance that some infection pus and whatnot will remain. Also, taking out the piercing means you have a good chance of the hole closing up and having to start over. Peace
ohhhhs ok. im glad i kept my nose ring in now. its all healed up. i just had to suffer from two days of painfull swelling. but its all good now. thanks guyys
