lol, I like how it says the effects of nicotine are not fully understood, and goes on to explain them... Smoking a cigarette makes me feel light-headed, and on some superficial level, it makes me look cool to some people. That's it. I agree with the concentration part, but that's it. There is no pleasant or euphoric feeling whatsoever..and nothing which can prove such. It's a placebo...when people become addicts, they think the nicotine makes them feel better (just like with alcohol), probably because it works like a false serotonin in the brain -- tricking the brain to believe that this substance makes you feel better (even tho it doesn't). That's why I say it isn't a stimulant. A true stimulant would directly effect the dopamine neurons. I once tried to become addicted to nicotine, simply for an experiment. It didn't work. I smoked a pack every day for a month, and quit cold turkey right after that. I had no desire to smoke. It made me feel like shit all the time..not euphoric or pleasant in the least. Sometimes I felt like I was going to vomit..maybe that's pleasant to some people.
nicotine probably affects a lot of people different. but ive read some strange shit in this thread (like getting addicted to hydrocarbons?) Nicotine is called a stimulant because most cells that react to nicotine are around the gut and heart and organs, the autonomous nervous system. There are also a few cells in teh brain that react to nicotine. when you smokea cigarette, your heart pumps faster, arteries constrict, stomach churns, gut flexes, lungs constrict, etc. this is the 'stimulant' affect of nicotine. smoking depletes your oxygen and this can provide light headedness. when on speed, ive definately felt great feelings from cigarettes. way before i was a smoking person. its not just a relief of an addiction. cigarettes can have differing affects on your brain. i know for me, that if i smoke a cigarette, i cannot write properly or type well. i get pretty unco actually. ive never heard of it from anyone els but it happens to me, and its not the 'dizzyness' that ppl get when they first smoke cigarettes, its a different sort of disconection from the world
That happened to me once when I was packing a lip. It got difficult to type and I became extremely light headed. I was afraid to try standing up. I was, for lack of a better expression, "fucked up."
