Alright, so here's my take on homelessness. I'm sure I'll get flack for it but I'm saying it anyways. Homeless people IMO are deadbeats who couldn't hack it in the world so they rolled belly up and threw themselves to the wolves. It takes big balls to get up everyday and face life no matter how plain or uninteresting it may seem at times. Everybody makes a choice in their life. These people have chosen that path. I don't give them money because they don't fuckin deserve it. It's my goddamn money that I earned and they think that just because they hold out a hat or ask for small amounts of it that it's okay. I VERY easily could've been homeless at one point in my life but I decided not to be. It's a cop out because they're too weak to face life. Every time I go downtown I see them hanging around outside the mission getting high. They get stoned multiple times a day, don't have to work, get fed when needed, and have a place to sleep at night. Only because we fucking pay for it. I say cut them off. Fuck them. Let them die, then go in with those human garbage trucks like they had in 'Soylent Green' and take em away. There getting a free ride because they're too pathetic to face life and we're paying for that ride. Seems stupid to me. Ahhhh....I feel much better now.
Or the flip side is they get to sit around and do whatever the fuck they want, when they want. In the immortal words of T.S.O.L "Life is just slavery, working 9 to 5, waste your time working, you might as well die"
Maybe I am stating the obvious but luna is a troll. Here is my food: A large number of homeless people have mental illnesses or disabilities that make functioning in the 'real world' impossible. They are a reflection of society's failure to integrate them.
There are people that just choose to be bums - no doubt about that. But some people don't have a choice.... I know people that were kicked out of home at 18 and had nowhere else to go but the streets. They didn't pick to be kicked out of home. There are various reasons people are homeless...if you can't appreciate that...then there is no talking to you. The problem is you can't tell what peoples stories are...
I have been homeless, I lived in a hotel for a week or so... it sucked. Not all homeless people are pieces of shit beggers...
I agree with kr. It depends on how old they are too. There are some fit fully capable people who if nothing else could be doing some kind of menial minimal job. Alot of these people are mentally ill or slow. Some are criminals who cant get jobs. some are addicts who cant function enough to get and hold a job. I dont feel bad for not handing them change. I figure the taxes which everyone pays and fund the govt programs are enough. Ive been homeless too.. but I was 17.
I lived under a bridge during may 2000 It was a choice I made to escape an extremely dangerous living situation. I was 15, and I spent my time at the library. I never begged for money, but a few people did buy me meals. Mostly I stole food. When the police found me, they tried to drive me off. I was too young to work, and it's hard to find someone who'll hire a child with no work experience and no phone number.
Yea thats not homeless. I'm talking about the homeless that ask you for money. Try to sell you H and guns. Fall over in the street and shit themselves. Take shits on side streets downtown. I would not consider what you said homeless. You still had a roof over you at least.
i always help any homeless people if i can...no questions asked...karma is a bitch lunar.....never mind soylant green,,,how about..'trading places'...also...the last time i defended my 'homeless' position I was shit all over by many dickwads for having compassion so go a fuckin head and do it again...i like being generous ...sometimes i give doobies, sometimes pills.once or twice even twenties, cigarettes, whatever i have to spare....my gloves...my takeout meal....a ride....whatever..you do what allows you to sleep at night...i do what allows me to sleep at night.....edit...face eater is correct
A lot of America is homeless right now. And, as has been said, there is a BIG difference in being homeless and being lazy and a beggar. My best friends uncle was homeless for a week (he got in touch with bfs father, his brother)....he lost his job a few months ago and was evicted from his home. It's tough out there right now.... I've given money to a few people I've seen. One guy, I have known for some time, he IS homeless and DOES need the money. They turn him away from the foodstamp office all the time, they say he doesn't qualify. We have low/no income apartments in this town, he's applied, and has been awaiting the response for 5 months now. He sleeps on couches here and there, and he IS looking for work. I give him money when I have it.
