why DON'T men cover up, too?

i mean, women feel lust. why don't men cover up as well? i'm totally turned on by men, i can't help it any more than any man can help being turned on by a woman. so why don't men wear full coverage clothing, too?

 

frankly, yes. do they think women don't have sex drives?

He looks scary though. I ve seen a lot of them in Sarajevo. They took control of some areas. And they are very violent. But their leader was killed months ago and things are getting back to normal now.

The largest populations of muslims are based in India and they have recently passed a fatwa to kill Taslima nasreen. I was there in India when this happened, and I personally witnessed the attack on taslima nasreen (by a muslim mob) at her book release function in Hyderabad, India. Terrible really, the ignorance is overwhelming.

After experiencing that and pat robertson's comments/crusade, I ask why should their be established/organized religous communities at all?

 

The problem is that they don't know anything else other than their fundamentalist view of religion. The crazies you are trying to ask about are like that because they go to schools that teach only Islam and its law from the time of their childhood.
They are told from the young age how to "treat" their women, they learn the abusive ways early on in home from seeing how their fathers' treat their wives (yes the father has sometimes two or more wives),

They are told that women are subordinate to men and that is the perfect unchangeable law of allah in lectures in their mosques, which they go to every friday.

They are told that Islam is the only way, the infidels will be punished by allah in hell and they are repeatedly told about the descriptions of how allah punishes infidels in hell... causing them to fear allah and also hate the infidels at the same time.

They grow up to be lets say 21 or 22 , some guy comes to their neighborhood to recruit young adults...hey they don't have jobs because all they know is Koran & sharia law (I am talking about those people who go to islamic schools). The guy promises them heaven because he talks about the holy jihad war against the infidels who are growing in number and are corrupting the ways of Islam in their country. He even promises monetary support for them and their present/future families if they join in the jihad.

Naturally, they join and they fight us- those in the camp of non believers and although we are innocent, we get killed in the name of Allah who is supposedly the compassionate Lord of the universe.

 

Oh i am sorry, I was not trying to insult you or your religion. I was simply pointing out the reasons why a fundamentalist islamic practioner may treat women badly. Also, I was pointing out the reasons why a fundamentalist Islam practicioner may kill infidels in the name of Allah. The cause for this is not Islam ofcourse, but how it is interpreted by those who practice it.

If you are a muslim, you need to understand, I maybe an infidel, but I am just as much of a slave to allah as you are a slave to allah, when you realize that, there is no "camp of the nonbelievers". Similarly, You need to also realize that women and men are simply slaves to Allah , nothing more than that. Hence, there is not much of a difference between the status of a woman and a man now is there?

 

No, not funny at all. I was there and I had seen the muslim mob. The mob was led by a muslim leader in Hyderabad , India. Terrible really, they never came there to make a peaceful protest. They came to the press club (Taslima nasreen's book release event was held at the press club in hyderabad) and they started throwing all sorts of things at her. There were a few senior journalists who blocked the aggressors way to Taslima and she escaped. If she didn't escape, the cost would have been her life and the life of a few witnesses to this event.

i didn't take it as a slam on all islam, just like i don't think pat robertson represents all christians. it happens, there has to be a reason. i don't comprehend the concept of women as property or as subordinate.

 

Absolutely, I agree with you there, but can you blame him (guitarman)? there are not alot of good supporters of peaceful islam nowadays. Some try to present the peaceful side of islam, but this image is ruined by the fundamentalists in eastern countries.

 

Women are put in the position of "being taken care of" (financially) in many religions. And women are required to abide by their husbands / caretakers rules because they are dependent on them financially. This dependency puts them in a subordinate position.

Also, it is supposedly the duty of a man to protect his wife from other men according to Islam. This allows him to treat his wife as his valuable asset or property and sometimes in the process he forgets that she is another human being.

 

so, basically, he gets away with not fulfilling his end of the bargain and she pays all the penalties. that's nice. that's real nice.

 

Only women pay penalties? not really.
Men have to also do certain things in islam. For instance, he has to get circumcised. He cannot have any contact with a woman before marriage. There are many other rules too that men have to follow. In my opinion, these rules are not natural.
For instance, if God didn't want men to have foreskin, why did he create them with it? Another example: If God did not want man to see and enjoy seeing women before marriage, why didn't he create him blind until he is married...so that after his marriage he can see his wife. Maybe God should have made all other women invisible so that the man may only see his wife and his future wives that Allah wishes to grant this man.


Also, assuming Allah is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent and assuming we are all slaves of Allah, if he did not want infidels to exist why didn't he make us be born with quran imprinted in our minds , that way we can never be "infidels" and we can be good muslims by birth.
