Large population, wealthy country, greater awareness of mental disorders and greater access to, and better medical care. ( If you compare it to Africa for example.)

    A combination of things really...

Stress is a major contributor to these conditions, and American society is extremely stressful. The major contributor to stress, in turn, is uncertainty. American society encompasses uncertainty in the form of crime, fractured families, heavy competition, economic cycles, and lots of other things.

American society is obviously not the only one with these characteristics. But things like this tend to get magnified here.

It's also not really fair to zero in on these negative characteristics without also pointing out positive ones, of which American society has many.

    Precisely
Also the large population, busy (yes, often unnatural) lifestyles etc. But of course as the post above says everywhere gets stress, some places a lot worse than in the west. Its just reported and recognised here

In some areas of the world, people are too concerned with basic survival to have the luxury of worrying about their own mental state, or happiness.

    Good example.

However, in Detroit people have it good. I read somewhere you can buy a house for about ten bucks there, and people have.

I met my wife in Detroit. It's been a question of survival ever since.

Capitalism. Alienation from your labor = alienation from nature = alienation from your body.

There ya go. Give it a label and throw money at it. That'll fix just about anything.

    Ding ding ding!
    Most correct answer!

We are all like domesticated rats in a cage. Funny thing is, we built our own cage! We domesticated ourselves!
Some take domestication well, others don't...( we have nearly wiped out all the non-domesticatable humans ie native peoples...)

Yeah, some of us are gnawing at the bars, but fuck it, my teeth are just about worn out...
