Someone emailed to ask what she wanted for her birthday party, and she'd been drinking so made some spelling mistakes when she said she'd like some grass. Just a guess.
ha ha ha ... i like that guess ... i thought that was an odd gift as well, but i guess if your flat is draughty maybe?
Or she wanted another drink and said 'yeah, I'll have another glass', then got crippling period pains, clutched her stomach and yelled 'pain!' Consequently she ended up with another glass pane....
More likely someone asked if she wanted some wine or something, and she said she'd have "a glass" rather than "another glass". The former would suggest she already had one pane of glass.
You've just made a classic error, sir. She wasn't asking for another pane of glass, she was asking for another glass of an alcoholic drink. The confusion comes later when she shouts pain and is assumed to be saying pane. My convoluted hypothetical situation works better than yours because double glazing comprises, by its very nature, two panes of glass....
I've been drinking, but hold on. In your scenario of her asking for another glass and then having pains, she would sound as though she's asking for "another glass pane" ("another glass...PAIN!"). In my situation, where she is offered a glass, she says she'll have a "glass pane" ("yes thank you, I will have a glass...PAIN!"). I've also never heard of anybody referring to a single pane of double glazing as two panes of glass, surely that would be a redundant statement since a single pane of *double* glazing would be two panes by design? It's more likely that someone heard this and bought her a single pane of double glazing, rather than heard her say she wanted another pane and bought her this said other pane. In the latter case, it still wouldn't be double glazing, as the first pane that the mistaken person thought she had didn't actually exist. Also, even if this first pane did exist and the other person bought her a second pane, it wouldn't be double glazing. The procedure of creating a double-glazed glass pane is slightly more complicated than putting two single panes together.
