It seems like everytime i'm out in public I get negative stares and rude coments ... Does this happen to anyone else? Maybe it's just because I live in the Bible belt of Pennsylvania.
i don't know... i've never got negative stares or comments because of the way i dress or act... people often stare at my clothes and jewelery on the street or in a bus, but i don't mind that much. i find that funny... few years ago an old lady in a bus asked me why i was wearing a skirt and jeans at the same time! i told her i liked it that way. and the other lady asked me why i had 2 different chucks (green and red) and i told her i had been very sleepy that morning and that i hadn't noticed it.
i live in a town with a lot of tourists, busfulls come in and out all day. almost every single one i make eye contact with gets a huge grin on their face. so i can't say i share your experience . must be the bible belt. i do know of a lot of christians who don't want their kids around me. i think it's because we do DRUGS o__o!!
prismatism, you must be cute, that's why. around here almost everybody is atheist.and still everybody hates hippies. that's because most hippies won't fight back,so they're easy targets for those who need a violent way to get rid of their frustrations. also,i've noticed there's a huge lobby ridiculing hippies, and that the hippies were the only counter-culture who could seriously threat "the establishment"
I get negative comments beacause of the way I dress. One man told me to go and join the Village People - YMCA! It was embarrassing.... lol
Well what do you expect? Have you looked in a mirror?? My eyebrow piercing often draws strange looks and reactions.
some chicks from my school were laughing at my dreads once they were calling me druggie and stuff who knows why is this hatred, but there r many other people who gave me free weed and were allwas so kind 2 me,so its a wonderfull world anyway!
Hellz Yeah! That's the great thing about being stereotyped as a hippie. I can get blazed for free almost anywhere I go, but I do the same for others so it's kind of a circle. The only bad thing I've noticed is if I say anything stupid they'll automatically think it's because I'm a stoner...like people that don't smoke pot make mistakes...
Haha, most of them aren't at all. It's very simple, it's because they're different. Just the same as with punk, metal, ethnicity and religion.
lol. they hate hippies cuz they hate themselves... too much hatred makes you see the world in black. they gotta open up the valve to their total selves but either way... some kinda ask for it... i actually dislike hippies in a way, because theyre really stupid... all those stereotypes man... hippies are as much a stereotype then anything else... its another one of those reasons to make our existance meaningful, due to fear towards our reality, towards what is , is-ness. Im starting to prefer roaming around in this universe as my "self". way cooler if ye ask me. to be free of all things (useless, such as labels ye give yourself) that completely jampack your consciousness oh and also, the fact of your difference, of the one mentionning barefooting, others prolly wearing bandanas and such, makes you more vulnerable, knowing you have a difference on your body, on your fake existance, and someone gives ye dirty looks ... youll react at what is the most obvious, but im sure the guy walking around in adidas shoes and normal clothes gets as much negative stares for having a big nose or whatever. if ye walk around with the little thought inside "ppl must think im weird", trust me ppl will think youre weird... we emanate things that will become.
I used to get wierd looks and i still do get the occasional freaking hippie but once people gogt passed the hair and they clothes and heard me talk about my veiws in a organized way they learned that it's not just pot and sex but love and freedom behind it all.
yes I know what you're talking about. I love dressing in flowy clothes, with lots of jewelry and sashes and such, and going barefoot especially but sometimes I feel I shouldn't because alot of people in my area...they just stare and some seem kind of intimidated or something. But whatever, I don't really care, I just dress and act in my way and treat everyone as kind as possible. Most i wouldnt say all hate, it's just that maybe, I dunno it's kind of wierd of something.
Because we are awful people. In fact, the only reason I became a hippy is because I was already an awful person and I wanted a reason to feel self righteous about it.
once again, i love you. but which is worse; to be the epitome of a stereotype which is supposed to represent peace and freedom, or to get a bug in your ass when someone is being stereotypical? please don't let this thread turn into another pointless and stupid debate about stereotypes and originality because of me . i really hate those.
