Why do giraffes have long necks?

Obviously it is so their heads can reach the tops of the trees, where the leaves are, right.

But for fuck's sake would it not have been easier to just make the trees a bit shorter, then they'd be able to grow quicker and maybe even be able to support a greater turnaround of giraffes?

I dunno what giraffes are for anyway, so I don't know what use more of them would be.

They have such long necks because their head's so far away from their body.

 

We have giraffes so the zebras don't look weird.

I was watching the nature channel or whatever, and they were showing two giraffes fight, it was weird to see.. It also made me sad, and I honestly have no clue as to why, must have been hormonal that day...

 

I thought having a long neck would be a good thing, if your gonna blow a elephant too..
