I don't know for sure, just like no one else does The one thing I do know for sure is that no one knows for sure, and anyone who thinks they have it all figured out is insane.
I totally agree. NO ONE knows for sure but one thing I do know it did happen whatever it was I am glad it did because I would not be typing this otherwise and the fact that I have the ability to reason and understand what I am typing. I am thankful that I got to exist
This is getting way to funny, my first comment was an attempt to clarify what another person stated that Americans are not well represented to the world by our politicians actions, and I think we can agree that they are not, then someone read into this that they were stating that non Americans were to dense to understand this. So I said they should reread the first statement because that is not what was said. And for some reason they told me to reread theirs, stated that they had said a paragraph of things although it was only one sentence long. Now I appear to be getting bagged on for being literal, I know its a terrible thing. As far as reading between the lines, I can, though I prefer for people to say what they mean, and as to whether or not I need help wiping my ass, not yet, maybe in a few more years, but if you like I can save it up for you.......Peace
I agree with that I believe its 100,000 times more likely that aliens started life on Earth than anything based on Christianity. Of course then who created the aliens, and how does space go on for infinity, and if it doesn't what is there at the end? Its impossible for our minds to comprehend at this point
Well I guess science has shown that the oldest we know humans like us go back is almost 200,000 years. And the earth is 4.5 billion+ So if the science is correct, that debunks the creation timetable laid out in the bible.
there is the theory that says that each "day" in the biblical creation story is a metaphor for a period of time. not that i believe that; just throwing it out there.
I hadnt heard that one, I guess that is more feasible though than the members of my family and others who take every word in the book at face value. They believe that the earth is something like 30 or 50,000 years old, and even seem to question the existence of dinosaurs because of this.
Obviously Fundamentalist Christianity is pathetic If i were from another country I would likely look down on the US more than China because of all the stupidity involved in that religion, and the uprising that coincided with the Bush era ...but then again, they find mass graves of female newborns in China, so maybe not
i dunno if its been mentioned in this thread but a woman recently wrote a book on boycotting everything from china for a year.. its apparently not a easy task.. heres a NPR interview. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=12056295 the book, A Year Without "Made in China": One Family's True Life Adventure in the Global Economy a brief article,, http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2007/07/19/my_year_without_made_in_china/
well yeh we rag on china too. and pretty much everyone else. but it's seems to be cool here to hate on americans. i dont really know why, cos we want to think we're so much better i guess. we got tall poppies syndrome over here. we cut down anyone who thinks they are better. that's why some celebrities hate it here and some love it. cos no one gives a shit if you are a celebrity you'll get what everyone else gets and if you dont like it you can go back to where you spawned from. as much as i love the people here, there are a lot of basket-weaving-just wanna feel good idiots who want to blast america's choices, when we ourselves have never had to make those kind of decisions. and also a lot of the time the media focuses on the ignorant hicks who point to china when asked where australia is so it just makes you look incredibly stupid. couple that with the huge patriotism you guys have over there, with your flags flying in every backyard and crap, and it's kinda like.. get over yourselves... america is not the centre of the world but yeh.. thats not all my opinion just how i interpret it
Yeah I think China has a lot more gross, outright humans rights violations. But for the most part they keep it to themselves and below the surface America has vast populations with beliefs so ridiculous you have to keep yourself ignorant to retain them, meshed with arrogance. Thats a bad combo.
Old Earth Creationists. Theres also a theory that theres a gap in Genesis which isn't mentioned. Thats supposedly where the time went. We had to do this in RE.
Christianity, and mostly all modern religions, are a play on the single basic belief of humans in natural states. There are many many many creation stories from native tribes around the world, all speaking of a Great Mother, Great Egg, Great Shell, that had broken and given life to all of Earth. Of course these people all knew that these were all obvious metaphors. If they were to meet and discuss theology, they would agree on everything the other said and probably become great friends. The problem of today, and can even result into problems of China and America, is that we have taken our metaphors, our mythologies too seriously. Jesus preached in obvious metaphors. The Bible is written in obvious metaphors. It is all easily seen this way when you compare it to other religions with other metaphors meaning the same thing. Religion is the play of "as if" but we have changed it to a basis of reasoning and eventually our cultures. When you make a foundation out of something that isn't really there, your house crumbles. I think it is about time that we notice our mortar hasn't been there for nearly 2,000 years.
The Chinese word for China is Zhong gu, and Tian Xia, the latter meaning, "All Under Heaven." As for screwing over other countries, how about importing weapons into the hands of a government in northern Africa committing genocide. Not that anything the US does is any better. And frankly I'm tired of all the xenophobia in these kinda of threads. "My people are so good and yours are stupid." Your all fucking children.
hey now, no need to announce that for the whole world to see! some people don't appreciate my sexual tastes...
