I rag on the United States too. We have an extremely cocky, overbearing gov't that is so worried about the world that we let our own issues continue to get worse.

I would completely hate America if I were from another country and didn't understand that the people of the land are not accurately represented by the gov't.

 

so are you assuming that people outside of america are too dense to understand how government works?

i don't hate cuba because every person there is a dictator...

no of course not....but there are many people who do dislike ALL of some country because of the government.

I think you need to reread marie's post, she said that the American people are not accurately represented by our government. I believe it to mean that all other countries see is the actions of our government and assume that it is the will of the American people.

i think you need to reread my post. i said that no country's people are accurately represented by their government and that people should therefore know better than to attribute any government's actions to the people living under that government.

True....but not all governments have their hands in every other country just about. Unfortunately most people can't even mention half of the countries.....they've never even heard of them. But US is impossible to ignore or not to have an opinion about.

Then other countries are ignorant for assuming. A lot of us have been victims these past 8 years. Not victims to the degree of Cubans or Palestinians oe Chinese, but victims in the sense that a lot of people haven't had the opportunity to gain the knoweledge or personal power to think they can make a difference.
or even worse...those that don't care...that sit in apathy 'waiting' for change. Our goverment promoted this apathy, gave us nothing to believe in. Almost half the population was lied to and brainwashed.
Wouldn't the anti-american sentiments be better redirected helping under dog countries?
i think hating on America is an easy excuse to sit on your ass and do nothing to helpo this world out.

 

I think a lot fo forginers are too wrapped up in the coolness of hating americans to undrstand.
I really hate that my child advocacy coffee cup I am drinking from now was made in China...
Let's only advocate for kids in our country...and then when we need to make money to help them let's exploit them there chinese little girls.
Before I got married I was contemplating at least a short term move to the UK. Hopefully things will really get better.

it is true, but it still has nothing to do with the american people. just because our government is more visible doesn't mean we are responsible for it, and anyone living under any government that doesn't represent them perfectly should theoretically be able to comprehend that.

When was basics?

People have always divided themselves into groups and fought amongst each other.

 

These threads annoy me. Like China deserves more hate than the USA.
