Hi everyone, I'm thinking about getting tattoo number three, but I can't think of any good ideas! So, I was wondering what inspires everyone else to get tattoos? Whats your reasoning?

My first tattoo is a brightly colored seahorse on my right hip. I picked out the picture and the only real reason I got it was because I liked the picture and I wanted a tattoo. Petty reasons, I know, but thank god I still like the design. I would like to have it touched up someday because the girl who did it was fairly new to tattooing.

My second tattoo is a custom design that I put some thought into. Its done in the traditional style of tattoos. Its a yellow and black scorpion (because Im a Scorpio) with blue flowers wrapped around it (symbolizing bluebonnets because I was born/raised in Texas). Its on the back of my left shoulder.

thats not petty reasons! if its good enough for you to get one done then its reason enough:)

I have a design in the middle of my shoulder blades, its from the lid of the Chalice well in Glastonbury. I got it done as i was born near to glastonbury and spent a lot of time there when i was growing up, its a place that means a lot to me and the design itself symbolises duality with heaven and earth, masculine and feminine etc.It also serves as a reminded to me to 'be' in the present moment and to remind me about my spirituality.

okay, this is my take on tattoos. I find them fuckin' awesome as hell and i want alot of them when im old enough, im only 16 but i have wisdom beyond my years, anyways back to the point I would get something that i know will always mean something to me not some lame shit i like right now but im not sure that i always will like. For example: i could be totally in love with my boyfriend and get his name tattooed on my ass, will i be in love with him forever? who knows. but if i got something like I LOve animals it could be ther forever ( i am vegan and will never eat meat ever), so yeah, thats only me...peace

_One of them is to remind me of my mother & kid sister -my family-; another one is a symbol of balance -something I need & work a lot for-; the other one is to mark an important time in my life & the last one is because of my sister, she has the same one & we designed it together.

Would I like them in a couple of years? Yes, they are a huge part of who I am & if I stop liking them they would always remind me of who/where I am today.

I got my dragon tattoo because I love the dragon. It is my favorite mistical creature. I chose to place it on my back inbetween my sholder blades because if I ever get pregnant that spot wont stretch ;).

The first tattoo I got was a ohm symbol in the middle of my back. Its not very big but I plan to add onto it before too long. I want to have it be the center of a lotus blossom blooming and the blossom be colored like a yin-yang without the full circle. I'm not finished designing it, but I'll post a pic as soon as I finish. To me they represent that 1) we are connected in the universe (the ohm symbol), 2) people can rise above the muddiness of life (the lotus blossom), and that life is a balance and can't lean to far in any direction (the yin-yang). It's kind of a mix of ideas of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism.

I want to do something for Judaism, X-ty, and Islam, but I'm having problems. I want to use the Christian fish symbol and incorporate the moon/star symbol from Islam, but use the star of David for the star. What do you all think about that?

My other tattoo I have are the five Dead bears dancing around my right leg. I thought about shading them or coloring them, but I don't want them to look to fake. Plus they all look a little different from each other, so that gives them a little originality. I'm a huge fan of the Dead, so I don't know if I'll do any other Dead oriented tat's. Laters!

    I only have 1 tattoo :(

I got it done last year, I was just 16 I think. I'm an art student and one day I felt the urge to go and get a tattoo. So I designed it myself, got my friend who was 18 to act as my guardian, and got it done. Its a skull on my thigh. I chose it because I spent my last college year with a chosen theme. Skulls. So whatever project I was doing, I encorperated a skull into my final piece somewhere. I had a great year, I really did enjoy it, and I wanted something that would remind me. So I designed a skull, then got it tattooed on me! I chose my thigh because you know, I was only 16, I think I'd literally JUST turned 16, and I didn't want to do something to myself that was really noticable, and then change my mind. Plus, I quite like 'hidden' tattoos.

I want to get one or two more, maybe some stars just below my knicker line or something hehe

I have a tribal tattoo of a bird falling that looks like a flame. It is between my shoulder blades. I got it for a few reasons...

    1. I really wanted a tatto
    2. the tattoo is soooo gorgeous and simple I love it
    3. my favorite book is "to kill a mockingbird" (cheezey I know) and it reminds me of the book, which in turn reminds me to never judge someone until I have walked a mile in their shoes

I intend on getting another one on my wrists it will either be the words " COM PATI" one word on each wrist - it is the latin root for the word compation -it means "to suffer with'

or the words "SE LA VI" which means "so life goes"

I started mine to cover three surgical scars, so they determined the placement. The first I got was a very stylized dagger - it covers the scar completely and is a symbol of what caused the scar. The rest of my tattoo's are floral and fauna - a theme I intend to stick to for anymore I get.[IMG]

Hah! Androidette, well done for bringing that up! LilyLove, the actual spelling of 'Se La Vi' is 'C'est La Vie' which is French and which translates to mean 'Life Goes On'. Bloody hell, people are stupid! And so much of that stupidity shows up in their tattoos...I once saw a man with a bulldog tattoo and underneath it were written the words 'Great Britten' (that's right; the patriotic fool couldn't even spell the name of his own island!) and a friend had a Chinese symbol tattooed onto her inner arm in the belief that it said 'hope' or 'harmony' or something suitably full of Chinese wisdom...and the actual translation turned out to be 'microwave'! Hah you people crack me up! X

actually, it literally translates to "It is the Life", but more commonly used as "that's life", an expression of resignation

    since we're being nitpicky.

_I thought it was French & asked because it would be horrible to have a misspelled phrase for a tattoo.

hahahahaa!!! yeah, got a few stories about misspelling too (my hubby's very literate, he hasn't misspelled anything yet:D) - we should start a new thread on all the bad spellin scratchers out there

my friend & her boyfriend went to the keys, he got a tattoo that says 'another day in paraise' - he didn't even notice until he got home - lol!!!! another good reason not to drink & tattoo :D

Holy crap, wouldn't that be the absolute pits?!?!?!?! No way it wouldn't bug you unless you could get an "I was in the tropics and drunk and isn't this funny" kinda thing going on. But, I have to admit I use a little of the booze for pain killing before the tattooing, but I sure try to hide the fact from Brian. Though he has worked on me enough that I doubt it would be an issue with him, ya know?
