    After a thread i wondered;

    Now i have heard this from a few people outside the internet. I'm pretty damn positive none of them know each other.

    Where did this white lighter paranoia start? It's everywhere! WHo is at fault!

    It is just a lighter :juggle:

    i dont know the origin, but i will theorize.

    first, white is a light/ bright color. easier to see, easier to get noticed, bam! caught smoking. black/ dark colors are easier to hide.

    second, a white lighter might have more memory triggers associated with it. all those pretty decorative lighters are white underneath. so you buy a cool lighter, super awesome, then over the course of use gets caught on something, starts to tear the plasticy stuff, then its poking you in the hand and you say fuck it, and remove it. now you have a white lighter that used to be awesome, but still has to be used up. maybe you even think of the whole 'bad luck thing' at the time, reinforcing the thought. even if you are the first person to have bad luck while wielding a white lighter you still have the associated lighter acquisition story, the coolness removal story, etc.
    so you get busted with a white lighter, and it adds to the story.

    Superstitions are pretty foolish to be honest. A lighter is an object that is made by the same machines, to the same standard as every other lighter, regardless of colour.

    I said it in the other thread and I'll say it here, too, I have never had bad luck that I could blame on a white lighter. There are other things I'm superstitious about...like clothes. If I wear something to a funeral, I won't wear it to a wedding (except shoes, eff that, I have two pairs of dress shoes and don't plan on making that number any higher), or if I'm wearing a specific shirt when something horrible happens, I'll likely never wear it again. But lighters...I've never blamed my luck on lighters. I'm just happy if I can find one at all.

    How come every thread i've posted in is about lighters tonight/morning? LOL..

    I said this in a thread that probably started the whole lighter thing, the smoke or eat thread -

    This is what i have heard, white lighters are indeed bad luck, but only if it is given to you or left in your car etc. If you have one of the plastic cover jobs and it comes off, that white lighter is ok, or if you actually buy a white one. This is because it was considered a bad omen for a soldier to be given a white hankercheif during the civil war.

    Too funny, when disposable lighters first came out, I had bought a white one. The stupid thing never lite right and I never bought another white one.

    I must of been ahead of my time............or something. :)
