Why are we so afraid of Islam?

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Pakistani efforts to block a YouTube video trailing a controversial new film about the Quran are likely just a taste of the hornets' nest it will stir up.

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority, the nation's telecom regulator, Friday ordered Internet service providers there to block access to the YouTube trailer, advertising a forthcoming short film about the Quran being made by Dutch politician Geert Wilders.

Wilders' 10-minute film "Fitna" ("ordeal" in Arabic), which he plans to release next month, will show how the Muslim holy book "is an inspiration for intolerance, murder and terror," he said recently.

A statement from the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority said the decision to block YouTube was taken following a meeting of senior officials from several Pakistani ministries, including telecommunications, information and broadcasting, interior and religious affairs.

The statement called the trailer "highly provocative and blasphemous," adding that it "absolutely stands against the values of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence," and was "arousing deep anguish and distress across the Muslim world."

They had blocked the site, they concluded, to forestall riots causing "more unrest and possible loss of life and property across the country."

By Monday, YouTube had removed the video, saying it had violated the site's terms of use, which include a prohibition on "hate speech," defined as "speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity."

A YouTube spokesman did not respond to a request for an interview, and the company has in the past said it would not comment about decisions to remove material for terms of use violations.

Anonymous officials from the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority told several new outlets they had also sought to cut off access to other Web sites showing the controversial Danish newspaper cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. They were originally printed in 2006 but were reprinted by some European newspapers last week.

Has anything else ever been removed from Youtube for being offensive to any other religious group?

 

The virus that is "faith" comes in many strains. I think our own variety is a far greater threat to life on earth than is Islam, due to the xian belief in Armageddon "end times" and all. Killing "infidels" is bad enough; the xian goal of eliminating human life in a grand global war is worse by orders of magnitude.

 

It's spelled "Zion" and it has only to do with the creation of a Jewish state. It's interesting that you equate that with the extermination of the human race...so I'm guessing your views fall on the other side? The side of the DESTRUCTION of any Jewish state (Israel) and it's inhabitants?

Islamic terrorism INTENTIONALLY targets CIVILIANS just about 100% of the time. It's not stretching the truth at all to say that the more people that die, the better it is for them and their cause...right?? Of course, that's why their typical target is something like a marketplace.

Israeli security forces target known terrorists 100% of the time. That's why their typical targets are buildings being occupied by ranking members of extremist organizations, containing men armed with rocket propelled grenades and automatic weapons.

The reason we fear Islam is because it makes a good boogeyman with which to motivate the masses. Much like our fear of the American Native tribes in the land grab by European colonialists and western expansionists, the Red Menace during the Cold War, and all those poor aboriginals in the Tarsan movies.

 

Even on 9/11, more people died of cancer than of terrorism. On a typical day, all terrorists of all nations world-wide combined will kill fewer people than die of cancer in the US only. It would take more than a hundred 9/11 attacks per year- one every few days- year after year after year- to be as big a problem as cancer alone.

I'm not saying that terrorism isn't a problem, but it's really a pretty trivial problem, and people that claim to worry much about it are either mentally ill, uninformed, really bad at basic math, or just looking for an excuse to send someone else's son to the other side of the planet to kill people in their homes for their flag-flapping, bible-thumping sense of "pride."

Nobody is fanning the flames of war in the middle East more than the Israeli zionist hierachy. The one we give billions of dollars to every year in the guise of "aid". Like we have since 1948.

You can't bend over in Washington without bumping into a dozen of these people. There is no more unholy of an alliance than the one between the US and Israel.

Two powerful nations with populations that are easily manipulated by pretend democratic policies and needs. In reality, both nations are just store fronts for an agenda of world domination.

why? Just read the Koran. it teaches hate and intolerance... destroy other races and religions, kill all infidels. Islam is one of the most hateful, if not the most hateful religion out there.
I have no problem with religion; Buddhism, paganism, wicca, taoism, confusism, hinduism; all peaceful religions that teach tolorance. Its religions like catholism and christianity, and of course Islam, that only spread hate.

The reason some people are afraid of Islam is because they eather don't understand it or don't know anything about it.
There is a saying with a lot of truth in it:'Ignorance breeds feer.'

 

When you want to make people move as one, the best way to do that is to scare them. The ol herd mentality comes to the surface pretty quick.

This works in the short term. It can be a hard sell year after year however. The current powers in both Washington and Tel Aviv are maintained by nothing more than fear. They create an enemy for us through their policies and then offer to protect us from what they've created.

In the meantime, they have full access to all our weapons.

Its not going to be much longer before they attempt to mold the world with these tools. Islam, and the religious in general are just pawns in this game. The people behind all this are far removed from any beliefs in God. This is personal to them. They want to rule the world and they intend to kill everyone who stands in their way of it.

What would you say if (God forbid) the U.S. started to look like Tel-Aviv with restaurants and nightclubs blowing up every day? As the bodies are being dragged into the streets would you still think it's all part of "a big conspiracy top secret agenda plan that they're pulling on us common folk"?

Well you see, thats where the plot thickens.

When you create such a mess that it stretches out over decades, people tend to forget little details like we started it. People like the Shah of Iran were brutal against his own people in order that the US had access to a stable oil supply. This kind of karma comes back to bite us now. It should be of no surprise.

Yet, our own government will paint it that way and sell it back to us.

Should we lay down our arms? No. The innocent must be protected as much as possible. But we do need to get to the people who perpetuate these conditions and show the world that WE THE PEOPLE still means something.

We need to put our house in order. And its probably going to take a revolution to do it.

XBloodyNailPolishX, I agree with you. As someone who spent time in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, I will tell you muslim terrorist don't give a damm about humanity. They want to rule and killing man, women, children, disabled, etc. does not mean a thing to them. Rule by terror is their objective. I am not saying all Muslims are bad because I have met plenty of Muslims from other countries such as the Balkans, Iraq, Dubai, Kuwait and they are good people. You all need to remember that Muslims terrorist are thugs let by radical religious maniacs that believe only their interpretation of the Koran is real and they will have their followers kill and maime anybody to enforce that belief.
I truely believe if we don't take the fight to them, we will see them again at the next 9/11. No one has proposed new legislation making murder legal, nor has anyone proposed not enforcing those laws. At least not that I've noticed.

Do you really believe that there's any connection between historic literature like "the bible" or the "the koran" and the stupid crap people believe today? Both books advocate violence on a scale comparable to the worst things humanity has ever experienced, with most readers ignoring far more than 99.99% of its "teachings." Like any religion, anyone can pick/choose/misinterpret anything. To one person, the Bible teaches pacifism and that it's immoral to own more property than you can carry on your person, while to another it teaches one to murder a pregnant Sharon Tate.

But really there's little or no connection between ancient religious teachings and today's religions. People still do what they want, and find an ancient goat-herder myth to back it up. And the people who act violently without cause are the ones responsible, not ancient goatherders writing down idiotic myths.

Identify "them" please. Because when the official report came out identifying which specific Saudi royals funded and ordered the attack, that part of the report was censored.
