We rent our house, used to be off the council but now it's the housing association. Cracking little 3 bed semi right next door to my little sister's school and where I work :D

So worth the 6 months in a hostel after our house got repossessed 11 years ago.

Nice one! Similar thing happened to us when I was little, left pretty much homeless, but my mum faught for the best place they could get her and I ended up growing up in a lovely 3 bed semi with a big garden too. Ok so the garden was a dustbowl when we first moved, and I clearly remember having to sleep on the floor and have mice running over me, but you should see it now! Its an awesome house and her rents dirt cheap still

You made me remember why Im asking too. Our parents think we should stop being such hippies and buy. Like this would be a good time anyway:rolleyes: Well get a house alright, but we want to rent still. Its a shit having landlords, especially when they barge in randomly, but itd be even worse being tied, even if only for a couple of years and even with the baby. Still theres a debate going on in my head so well see

We were, er, lucky? that my mum was pregnant and that the water was all germed up with cryptospiridium (yeuch) during our time at the hostel so we got fast tracked up the list with many apologies. It was a horrible place, someone was always ill and there were arguments and loud music at all hours. But it turned out OK in the end :)

Have you looked at putting your name on the council waiting list?

Glad you got out of there! Things were very hard for my mum with us too in the beginning when she first left the father but she was so strong, Ill always admire her for getting us through

Yeah cant say we havent considered. We never get any help for ANYTHING though as Scott apparently earns enough to keep a family. Odd how were in debt and always scraping pennies for food, then. I think wed pretty much wait forever

We personally feel more secure knowing we could just up and go whenever we wanted. Pretty much 99% against the buying thing, expected as it may be. Plus theres no way we could stay in this area, and its our home

Good news is there seem to be lots of 2 bed houses around, some the same price were paying for this pokey hole! Bit odd

    Anyway Im waffling

What Ive always wondered is what someone whos 16 with no qualifications on a min wage job is supposed to do if they cant live with parents? Kind of sad the minimum wage cant supply a simple life for someone alone. I mean min wage just about pays our rent, and this place has basically 1 room. Its an odd thing money and stuff isnt it

    Married, mortgaged with children.

Swore I never would own again after they robbed me back in the eighties, but a new lady living in a council property in the countryside for over 20 years persuaded me that because it was cheaper to buy than rent I should again. Should be alright if it goes messy this time though.

we just bought a really nice house just north of fort collins. it's close enough to enjoy fort fun without actually having to pay an obscene price for a shit house. the housing / mortgage crash really helped us out. we lost our first house after 9/11 with the stock market crash. we've been rebuilding ever since and struck while the iron was hot. the house we bought was a foreclosure, the house is only 3 years old and GORGEOUS. yay!

my kitchen is HUGE. i don't even have all the cabinets filled. i have a huge island in the middle for food prep and plenty of room for a table. huge windows in the living room letting all the sun in. walk in closet, huge bath tub, three bedrooms. yay! and we haven't even finished the gigantic basement yet. i even have my own pretty little office. and the view of the mountains is heaven.

I rent...I probably pay twice as much as I would with a mortgage. I'm thinking I should probably get a mortgage, but not just yet..........what do you think, should I?

I'm also considering going back to house sharing.....should I? I just don't know :leaving:

we are renting at the mo, we have been for 4 years. we want to buy, we are wanting to buy my OH's mums house. she lives on her own & its a large 3 bed that needs a bit of work doing on it. she cant afford to do it & its a lovely house with a large garden.

its just so hard to get a mortgage at the moment & saving a deposit while payingthe bills is twice as hard.

when the housing market hits rock bottom will be the best time to buy, i would wait a while if you really do want to buy.

landlords shouldnt be barging in randomly. i dont know where you live but in the uk landlords have to give 24 hours notice before they can enter the property unless you say otherwise.
