ok whos going to college, and what do u plan to study? and stonerbill im curious about ur plans... i plan to go to UIC then hopefully University of illinois for electrical engineering.. and possibly get pHd in robotics? what about u guys?
I plan on going to college but I have little idea of where I want to go or do. I'm looking into the financial engineering program at KSU and into a few sciences. I'll probably end up going to Kent State University, Ohio University, Miami of Ohio, or The Ohio State University. My parents have my other two siblings to put through college so going somewhere very prestigious or out of state is out of the question. If I do end up getting the financial engineering degree then I will spend my days helping myself and large corporations exploit the working class through the stock market.
I plan on going to the JOBCORPS because it's free and they train you for a trade of your choice for up to a year. And you can live on campus and they pay you for going to class.
im going to collage, i want to go to a 2 year then transfer to SCAD i wanna study art im not sure what kind.. but just something in art
My plans are to do something in art but first go to a community college and learn chemistry and umm i forget what its called but its were u learn how to take care and grow plants if i dont do art im just goin to community college
idk yet, i wanna tho... maybe go to university of Illinois... or one in cali, cuz i wanna move there anyways, or one thats like right by lake tahoe... i forgot the name of it haha but that one...
I've been working in auto shops since I was 17, and became a full blown technician at 19. It's a love hate thing with me. Awesome job, but there is a shit load of stress and it kills your body. What kind of mechanic do you want to be?
^^ I'm doing my first year of auto service technology right now at a college in my city (not gonna say where )... I'm not one to get stressed over much of anything, but i suppose some people find the trade rather stressful. I kind of disagree with you about the 'kills you body' point, Personal protective equipment is absolutly essential, for me anyways, but I usually never see any other techs wearing theirs. I could never work in one of those cubicle type jobs typing numbers in a computer all day, auto mechanics is very interesting, and although I know i probably wont do it for the rest of my life, I know that i'll have something I enjoy for the period of time I work in the trade.
Mellow- just wait until you have bills to pay, and there is no work. Or the "good" work (gravy) is being handed out to the older guys. It can be very stressful. Also, breathing in brake dust, clutch dust, brake clean, fuel injector cleaner, etc is not good for you at ALL. Do you wear a respirator at all times in the shop? If not, you are breathing a shit load of that stuff in. It stays suspended in the air. If the shop has a/c and/or good ventilation, it is minimized. Also, your joints will start to hurt like hell. Your knees from bending down to set the rack, and your back from bending over fenders. I'm not trying to deter you from it at all, it is a really good field to be in. Job security out the ass, and good pay. But I am just saying there are very real negative aspects about that line of work.
I always wear a respirator when im in contact with those chemicals, I also wear knee pads all the time, and I've got a good back, so i'm not worried about that. as I said, I'll prolly only do the trade thing for 15 years or so then get into a more eased line of work.
thanks man, peace to you. I'd also like to add that saftey regulations where I live are EXTREMELY strict, which is always good.
Do you have OSHA in Canada? It might be just in US, but they have strict regulations like you mentioned. Really the only way to get things done safety or healthwise in shops down here (where the employers don't give a fuck about your health, just $$), is to bring up the fact they are breaching OSHA's regulations and could be fined to hell.
Horticulure is what its called that and chemistry so i can make drugs when i decide that my job gets boreing and i quit or just when im old so i can have a good supply o drugs
we've got OHSA (Occupational Health and Saftey Act) which I bet is the same thing. yep we've got that up here, the regulations vary from province to province but its generally all the same. But in the long run the only person responisble for your own saftey is yourself. And I know what you mean by the shops only caring about money, personally I believe in quality of work over quantity of work. I'm trying to find an employer at the moment who feels the same way
well, my gay private "collage prep " school wont let me graduate unless i get accepted to a 4 year collage. or i can go to the military, or bitch about it.im gonna go any way, but i might go to vocational school and be a mechanic, i love pyro shit so i was going to be a pyrotechnic at disney (they have mad shows all the time) but im ot sure waht i have to take for that.but ya, im getting a blue colalr job later this year or next year, just for $$$ and to kill some time.
