I was supprised yesturday when out of about 5 people in the bakery (my job), I was the only one who could drive a manual transmition car. It was probably a fluke but I'm wondering now. Who can drive a stick?
I should be careful saying that I can. I used to be able to. But I have not drove a car for some time now. It's the bus or the footmobile for me.
I learned on a manual... got my license driving a stick shift. These days I drive automatic. Up to a few years ago my routine involved a commute to and from work in rush hour traffic and all the clutch work can get tiresome.
i learned in a stick. i drove nothing but sticks for years, including this gigantic monster of a diesel truck. now i'm in a automatic, and i still occaisionally find myself reaching to change gears. i like driving manual trans better, actually.
I prefer driving a stick, it's lots more fun and it feels like I'm actually DRIVING and not just sitting around in a car and being all blahhh. Automatic is boring.
I can drive a manual but I prefer automatic. I once owned this big Ford pickup truck and it was manual, I hated sitting at traffic lights on the incline of a hill, one foot on the brake the other on the clutch, then the truck rolls slightly backwards as you take your foot off the brake and step on the gas. Always worrying about whose behind you. Plus my knees and elbows began to get sore from all that shifting and pedal depressing(I got old!). So I said the heck with it and got an automatic and that's what I drive to this day! Bustramp
My boyfriend's truck is stick. He tried teaching me once and he yelled at me and I cried, so I have no desire to learn now.
I can drive a manual, I like them better even though the truck I have now is a automatic. Manuals normally get better mile per gallon. Saves on the pocket, better emissions. For the person who voted for bike, that is a great idea unless that is you have a family and have to travel real long distances. The best thing anybody can do if they need a car is dont get one any bigger than you need, Big Cars gulp more gas.
no, i've never driven a car with a stick. though, i know my friends get annoyed when driving through boston with their manual car. so i do want to "learn", i just need a car to drive with - it really doesn't look that hard at all.
and i do get pretty angry and i have a mini-bat that i bring out and whack the steering wheel when i get overly angry while driving, so the whole aspect of shifting and what not, while still getting angry - that doesn't seem like a good idea
Auto is way too boring, my last 3 vehicles (including current one) were manual so when I drive an auto I always step on the floor where the clutch should be and it's not there... I even tried driving once using the 2-3-D settings to force shifts on an auto when I got bored with it (not a good idea tho) Driving doesn't feel right if my left foot and right hand are not doing anything.
yes. and I'm quite good at it. although now both of my vehicles are automatic. and my wife can drive stick too. and not just mine.
My firebird is a 6 speed manual, and I wouldnt have it any other way. Automatic = Riding in a car, Manual = Driving a car. At least that's the way I see it.
I learned to drive on a stick. However, I received my first drivers license at 15. So that was 30 years ago. I have only had one car with a stick and that was an ole clunker I had from the ages of 17 to 20. I have not owned a standard since. In the last 10 years, I have not owned a car. My old 10 speed bike is my normal mode of transportation. All the times in the last 15 years or more every vechicle that I have driven my car, friend's, moving van or rental has been automatic. I guess it is like a bike, you learn once you'll never forget, lol.
I've yet to learn......my mom tried to teach me and pissed me off so bad that I got out of the car and never tried again.
It's transmission, sorry just that drove me insane! But yea, my Mazda Protege 93 (woooo11!1!!1!!!) is a 5 speed, I love driving it through center city at night, it's just such a cool feeling. I actually just got back from my friends house in south Philly, nice 10 minute drive with all the lights, but its great flying down Broad St at like 2-3AM since it's mostly pedestrians out at that time. I used to drive automatic, but when I took my license test (I was 18 at the time; some legal issues ) my auto broke down AT the DMV so I had to call my ex's mom to bring down her car and it was manual, so I took the test, while learning manual at the same time, and I passed. Actually I drove so badly that I should have failed but the guy must have been the coolest test guy because when I attempted the parallel parking test I backed right onto the curb, right on top of it, all 3 times I had to and didn't even complete a parking once, and he still gave me a 100%. I also forgot to stop at a stop sign, I turned right at a red light with a sign clearly stating no turn on red between the hours of 6AM and 6PM, and it was about 1:00PM.
