Ok so I just got a question for whites about black people, because I really dont get this about black people. How come like when blacks call white people like "Honkey" or "Cracker" or whatever- they think that that's ok to do. But then once we call them the "N*g*er" word- they all start flipping out like we just did something wrong- all I gotta say is: If any black dude ever call me a honkey or a cracker- he's definitely gonna hear the n word from me- thats for sure.
You're stereotyping...not every black person calls every white person a honkey, or cracker. It's individuals not races of people who are ignorant, and it's individuals who should be able laugh at something like that. Calling a black person any name just because they are black makes you ignorant.
Why do we call black people black when their brown? Why do we call people black or white when they aren't a color? LOL
It's because of the horrible root that the "n" word has. The white people did some horrible shit, and the word derived from them. Honky is just a playground word, really. I do see your point, OP, but whites are rarely a persecuted, repressed race, so honky just seems like a playground word, really.
Seems like all races use "knee-jerk" reactions to simple problems.I was called a name by a man of a different race and I just simply stopped and explained that I didn't like racism regardless of what color it was, he apoligized and we had lunch. No problem
Actually the term "Honky" came from an immigrant slur, "Hunky." As many different ethnicity's arrived in America, they were subjected to hatred amongst the current American residents (Much like everyone treats Mexicans coming into America for a better life nowadays). "Hunky" was a fighting term. If you said it to someone, you expected to get hit. Calling someone a Honky is almost trivial now, like making fun of someone with blonde hair. it applies to so many different ethnicity's that you shouldn't take offense to it. In fact, you shouldn't really take offense to anything people say. By doing so you are only strengthening the negative connotation associated with the word and allowing them to manipulate your emotions. Children call each other names. Adults determine what the problem is and solve it with respect for one another. (even though some children act more like adults and some adults act more like children) **And another side note, there have been slaves of all race, shape, and color over the history of the world, not just African Americans.
That's actually what I meant by the term "playground", but you and I have very different definitions of honky. I was told that it was from the white men trolling for black prostitutes. The men would honk their car horns to summon the girl. The girls started calling them honkies. (not a proven fact, just what somebody had told me) Anyway, I agree we shouldn't be offended by anything anyone says, but I cringe when I hear my redneck father drop the n bomb. Look how I can't even write the word out, but I can write honky all day. I know, lame, but it's conditioning from the onset of political correctness. I HAVE BEEN CONDITIONED!!!!:willy_nilly:
Inferiority complex + history + stigma. Like calling a gay person a "f@ggot". A fat person "fat". Shouldn't really have to be explained.
This is a little off the topic but this topic reminded me of this. Funny shit! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvMoF4lAwmw"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvMoF4lAwmw
Honestly if someone called me a honky I'd probably laugh. Honky's a funny sounding word, I'm actually laughing right now. It doesn't have all that much sting in it. And cracker refers to whipcrackers who were "superior" so that doesn't have that much sting either, no pun intended. But the n word I would imagine is degrading to be called, and it's also insinuating inferiority. That's my two cents.
