getting them done professionally is not ideal! why bother. I twisted and ripped mine, they all fell out, now I'm going natural. Anyone's hair can dread. here you go: everything you need to know about dreading! http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=355001&f=209
Natural is the best imo.... But if your not gonna go natural, do twist and rip. Makes way better dreads than backcombed ones. They seem to get tighter alot faster
yeah I did them myself and it was a pain in the ass, especially the back ones, I couldn't get them tight enough which is why they all fell out. Find a video on you tube, watch it with a friend, and get them to help.
since ur ganna have to grow ur hair out longer anyhow u should go natural but u could backcomb with that length but they would be really short and kinda funny looking.
His hair seams long enough. Bout as long as mine, and I think mine look fine. But imo you should go natural. It'll take about the same time for them to lock up all the way anyways, and backcombing seems to just make your hair look messy. And alot of them will fall out before they actually dread.
dont let these people push 'natural' methods on you. do what you want. backcombed looks a lot better than natural anyway:cheers2:
Yeah I backcombed when my hair was about as long as yours and they looked fine and turned out fine. Do whatever you want, there is no "best" method.
well that usually happens with all methods, you get wispy dreads, if you know someone who knows how to crochet dreadlocks they can round the tips out by doubling them back, thats what they did on mine and the ends end up looking nice and round, you need someone who knows how to do this though since its one of the more complicated things in dread making
if you leave them the way it is they will eventually suck the tips in... sometimes, some wispy tips you are just gonna have to live with... washing ummm... for me i was told not to was until 2 weeks but I did it after 6 days, washing differs some people use essences or you can use bicab or vinegar just try to use some residue free shampoo if your gonna use shampoo, no conditioner I for one just use water and massage my scalp for a while
I have a quick question from which I think is relevant to this thread; What do people mean with washing? Washing with shampoo, or is getting your dread wet while you take a shower also considered as washing? I shower like 25 minutes a day, could that be a problem?
