Just wondering this becuase I've been reading the paper daily since I was 7 (wish I hadn't, it was the bloody sun), and never really agreed with waht it said, nor The Daily Mail, which we have at school. Recently I found the Socialist Worker Online, it's a great newspaper! Any others which may interest me, barring the obvious such as The Independant.

    Hi Nyika,

You should have been born in the 60's, and if you lived in the Haight-Ashbury, district of San Francsco, you would have been reading the San Francisco Oracle and would have loved it.

The S.F. Oracle was awesome, the graphics alone was enough to blow one's mind away.

Now, nowadays, sorry, other than reading a few online left-wing websites, I hardly pay serious attention to what the newspapers say...

If only they were socialists and worked for a living !!!!!
long haired layabout scum - this is how socialist they are.
The socialist worker party had as one of its leaders Paul Foot
The son of the Labour Prime minister Michael Foot. Did you ever read Paul Foot when he worked in Fleet street as a rather bourgeois journalist - sorry but rebellion in that direction is guided by Eton and Cambridge - get Scunthorpe and Rotherham and Birmingham involved and then lets talk about it .
Half the leaders of that bunch of shams were at public school - wheres the socialism - the work must be in phoning dad for another allowance

I prefer the Lewisham Shopper (a free paper ) that has much better socialist ideals than the Socialist Worker - its a lot more workin class for a start - socialist worker party is a load of nice middle class people telling each other how comfortably and smugly moral they are, a lot of academics read socialist worker in the hope that it may say something that offends them but it never does, its just another means by which the sons and daughters of the ruling class can become rebelious and as such is no more political than the gothic punk movement which has also disappeared up its own butt as well

I stayed in Haight-Ashbury a couple of years ago and found this "underground"-type paper that had a long piece about the levitation of the Pentagon, and name-checked the likes of Fairport Convention and the Edgar Broughton Band. Felt like I'd travelled back in time ... the Haight seems to have that effect anyway.

As for today's newspapers I hardly ever buy them, life's too short. Used to get the Guardian every day, then the Independent, then the Morning Star - nowadays I just pick up the Metro on the tube and get my news from the Today programme and the web. Only ever buy the broadsheets when there's a free DVD ...

Other periodicals I tend to read regularly are Peace News and the New Internationalist.

Um, well Michael Foot was never prime minister and Paul Foot was his nephew. Apart from that though, spot on ...

It dont make Paul foot any less of a posh middle class twat that salved his conscience in an attempt to infiltrate the hard left and sell out the working class. After all what would someone who's dad mixed money deals with the aristo's up at parliament be doing in a socialist party. Paul foot and his type were just wealthy piss takers that did bugger all but pretend to be intelligent and did their corrupt parents bidding

    Sort through these names
John Molyneux, Paul McGarr, John Rose, Ian Birchall, Mike Gonzalez and Pat Stack.

All bourgeois overintellectualised snobs that wouldnt know poverty or want if belted them on the back of the head with a bag full of bricks.
These are nothing but bourgeois middle class tits that think it makes them look soooooo intellectual to claim to be thinking left wing strategy in the form of leading the socialist worker party when infact they are merely plastic trotskyists, posers

A little bit odd that people on from £30,000 ($60,000 usa) to £60,000 ($120,000 usa) a year as journalists and academics and whatever would want to claim they are socialists indeed trotskyists dont you think? A little bit odd that Cambridge is mentioned a lot when you dig deeper than this
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Worker
into their history - these are merely establishment stooges put there to prevent real leadership of the masses by anyone that is really a socialist or trotskyist.

Cambridge, UCL, and Oxford recruit for MI5 and 6 etc these people are stooges believe me - they are fake and if they are not fakes then they are stupidly misguided about what a middle class prick they look when on a wage most people only dream of while declaring themselves hard done by and therefore socialist, very very few real working class people get anywhere near to being able to dictate policy in that little outpost of the British establishment

I'm not by any means a supporter of the Socialist Worker party, I'm very much left wing but i have my own ideas. I just very much like the newspaper, it's the only one which gives a more left-leaning view of events in the news, it has interesting articles and doesn't concern itself with trivial things like which celebrity has had a boob job etc. etc.

I don't read any newspapers. I get all my news online. Mainly from the BBC news site. And I try to avoid negative news as much as I can, although sometimes it's unavoidable [IMG]
