So, this weekend coming up- mom's day weekend I wanna do something.. not sure what yet but I've come up with a few ideas but can't decide which one yet...

It would be me, my husband (kinda doing this for not just mom's day, but for his bday too- he turned 35 yesterday..), and our two yr old, Cason. So, I want it to be something D and I would like but also something a 2 yr old (2 yrs and 3 months old) would like. Because if Case doesn't like it... no one will like it. =)

So, the three ideas I came up with are either the national zoo in D.C.- a safari park near Harrisburg or the aquarium in Baltimore. What do you think a 2 yr (and 3 month) old would enjoy the most outta these?

The pros and cons that I see of them are... zoo- free and big and from what I've heard, a decent zoo (haven't been there though since I was very young)...so, like I said, free. (tho you pay at least one arm to park), but it's a pretty long drive to D.C. from here- and I don't find it enjoyable driving INTO D.C. and in fact tend to always somehow take a wrong exit, miss an exit, something going into D.C. so not diggin that drive... and I heard the zo is a lot of walking... but it's animals :D and free :D and has a kid's zoo and stuff...

Safari Park (called Lake Tobias) is the closest in distance and the easiest drive and (tho i haven't been there, again, since I was a young kid) heard it is great for young kids... plus it is mad cheap and we have a coupon so I think we'd only pay like $7 for 3 ppl... safari ride is supposed to be pretty rad, which diff african animals... plus theres a petting zoo =)

But the aquarium... well, the drive is kinda in between the other two.. not nearly as long and annoying and confusing as driving into D.C. but it's not just north of Harrisburg either. Driving to Bmore is okay tho.. the aquarium is actually a lil expensive, imo. However, I LOOOVE the aquarium. It's a nice place to walk around and Case loooves fish. Show him a fish tank, with just regular goldfish and the child is very happy. and they have a dolphin show...he's never seen dolphins but he LOVES pics of them so i think he'd get a kick outta that....

    ????
what would you pick for...yourself? a two year old?

Oooooh, I love the aquarium idea if it's in your budget at all. If not, the zoo is the next best choice! I bet Cason would get a huge thrill out of either!

Personally, I would pick either the spa or bed and a book option.

I grew up going to both. The zoo is cool, worth a visit for sure but it has that hood feel. Or at least it did when I was a kid.

The baltimore aquarium is fucking unbelievable and I think you should go there. World class shit.

My overuse of the word shit in this thread has become redundant.

    Fuck it.

Hahaha... that it is. Shit, that's cool though. *sigh*

How old were you when you went to and liked Gettysburg? I remember going there w girl scouts when I was young and also my mom and my grandma took my brother and me there a cpl times. I still remember that one house that that Jenny person got shot in sitting in her kitchen. I liked all the ghosts of Gettysburg shit. (shit, shit, shit)..
but hmm.. I am wondering if little boys (or older boys too) tend to like Gettysburg more than girls? Because my brother and Dan both told me recently how much they liked Gettysburg when they were kids... and tho some of it was kinda cool, I mainly remember thinking there was A LOT of walking and walking to stand by and get your pic taken by a cannon or something. It was okay. But the guys seemed to dig it more than I did?
but cason is a boy so when he's older that might be cool to take him there.. (at this age he'd obviously have no clue wtf it was about... tho you can put that child in a field and let him run around and he's happy as a fish in water)

I went there for field trips in elementary school. Maybe 3rd-5th grade age. Went a few times.

What I remember of it mainly is the house with bullet holes, candy, and buying pocket knives when the teachers weren't looking lol. This was before the pussification of America.

BUT I JUST HAD ANOTHER IDEA!!

    LURAY CAVERNS!

I totally bookmarked that page. It looks awesome. Really, really beautiful and to stay there is only like 80 a night w pool and balcony and the caverns AND the views are amazing. Def looks like worth checking out at some time. There's lots of caverns/caves n stuff closer to here but none of them have a pool and those mountains that are lovely n stuff like that... thanks!

if i havent been to... the caverns or skyline drive? i forgot all about skyline drive!! i went there in 6th grade w a friend and her parents. =)

and since we are talking about stuff in VA this summer (sept) when we go to the beach i should really take a day trip to assetegue or chicateague (sp!!! for both) island in either MD or VA so cason can see those horses that'll come right up to your window when you're driving. He'd love that! He's so cute when he sees horses.. he goes "neigh neigh" in this..cute voice. =) (hahaha i know.. i sound silly. "my kid said meow and it's ADORABLE!" -other ppl prolly thinkin "yeah okay, sounds like it" ...hehe)

hahaha. how true. we recently took him to this amusement park for kids (dutch wonderland in lancaster, pa) and my son was freaking out and not wanting to go on rides other than the train and the big slide. freaked out over the merry go round even and just didnt have a great time. yet the wk before he had a blast at hersheys chocolate world ride and sometimes seems to have more fun just feeding ducks at a lake or... in an empty field running around. so, yea, not only wont he remember it but sometimes i think i want him to like certain things and have fun doing them when he'd be just as happy...anywhere.

i think id like the aquarium though and if he has fun he has fun. (and it is called MOTHER'S day so yea..) =)

I have a two year old and I'd do the aquarium. Took her around her first birthday and she loved it then. Plus, less chance of losing them and more chance of standing still to view certain fish. I don't think I'd even attempt a zoo with mine, she's an absolute whirlwind and it would probably end up with me having to remove her from snuggling with a lion or fishing her out of the crocodile enclosure :p

The DC Zoo is very good, but a long drive and a long day for a two year old.

Same with the Aquarium. Took my kids there when they were young and my oldest ran full speed into a mirror wall thinking it was another room. Knocked him on his rear end. Very funny, and that's why we have kids.

My youngest was a baby and I got trapped in the submarine at Inner Harbor with him screaming like a banshee. So we were, "locked" into own little compartment as the tour progressed through the sub. Go into a room and they'd close the hatch behind us and in front of us. Then let us into the next room as the tour moved on. WWII subs echo a lot.

So I would go to Lake Tobias. Great family spot especially for little kids. Close to home, the bus tour is not real long and it's fun, the zoo is small, there is a food concession or you can bring a picnic lunch. (If it is still the way it was last time was there.) It's about a half hour from my house.
And you can get a buffalo burger.
I assume they still use roofless cut down school buses which is cool in itself.

That's what I used to think too but my three year old has proven me wrong. She talks about things we did or saw a long time ago, like she can remember little details from legoland where we went to nearly two years ago, stuff even I had forgotten.
Anyway, have lots of fun wherever you go, I know my kid would love all those places.
