For all those nay Sayers out there who decide against dreads cause they 'need to get a good job', or even for those who think there's no hope of them getting a job, where do work? How hard was it to get the job? How long were you looking for work before your patience finally paid off?
Actually, you just described where im at in this point of my life. Ive had a real hrd time finding a job (looking for almost 3 months now) and sometimes I wonder if its because of my locks, but no worries time works everything out. Although I have potential with whole foods...
Apart From The Occasional Part Time Job, I Have Always Worked For Myself, Farming.... No Restrictions On Dress Here... Haven't Worn Clothes *weather permitting* For Years. Haven't Worn Shoes *summer or winter* For Years. Started My Dreads Five Months Ago On The Eleventh Of August 2009. If Any Serious Issues Arise Concerning My Attire, Attitude, Or Hair, Then The Answer Is Simple.....I JUST GIVE MYSELF THE SACK..... Problem Solved.... Cheers Glen.
I do valet right across from the courthouse in Oklahoma city. My bosses hate my hair. They told me during a work meeting that I had to cut or put in my two weeks. It's been 3 months since then and I still haven't cut or put in my two weeks. I dunno what's goin on.
I Most Certainly Know Nothing About U.S.A. Laws, But Here In O.Z, If You Are Keeping Yourself Looking Neat,*maybe held back in a pony tail, or under a stylish cap*...And Doing Your Job Well, It Would Be Discrimination "Based On Appearances" If They Sacked You.... Perhaps This Is Why They Have Chosen To Remain "Silent" For The Last Three Months. Just A Thought... Cheers Glen.
Yeah, I work at Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts lol. I had the job before getting dreads, told them I was getting them, and they were like 'uh.... I guess...' and then told me I had to keep them back etc etc. So about two months into them telling me to always have them back, one of my cooler managers said 'yeah... it doesn't actually say you can't have dreads or have to have them pulled back in our manual... so just let them down.' And now most everyone likes my hair [except for some of the older ladies and I think they're just fuddy duddy old fashioned folks].
here in the good ole USA , they can hire and or fire for no reason at all, you can be working somewhere for 10 or 20 yrs, and just get fired one day without an explanation.... that is why i am a contract welder. i work when i want, and make the money i want, no bosses!
No work at present, haven't worked in a few years. Am in full time uni, and saved up enough to get me by until now. People think i'm lazy but considering I am here at university 5 days a week, a saturday job seems pretty pointless, just to save face. Would like to start working with my degree after this year though.
i work at animal shelters. mostly dogs. i specialize in behavior modification for abused/neglected/aggressive dogs and vet assistance
since having dreads ive had: a bar job part time work in a plumbers merchants part time work as a cleaner got an interview next week to join the postal team where i already work and im starting uni in october.. dreads dont hold you back, its you (as in yourself) that holds you back
I work part time as a job developer. I find jobs for adults with developmental dissabilities. I also go to school and am a mom.
Unemployed. I wish I could work but no one wants to hire someone who's going to be upping sticks. I've had plenty job offers though.
