What is too big to throw from your car window? Obviously an empty soda can or a candy wrapper are but what about smaller stuff like pencil shavings, a spit ball, a booger? A few crumbs from a sandwich seem okay, but to throw a half eaten sub on a walking path is clearly wrong.

And don't even try the "It's biodegradable" thing because poop is too, and I'm sure you don't want that in your front yard. (even though some people seem to not mind that either).

the biodegradable argument i feel is justified

    within good reason of course.

    and anyways - remember

there's a clear distinction between shit and a banana peel

    furthermore

you stand on shit and it's awful

you stand on a banana peel and it's hilarious.

    hahhaha ^^

I don't throw litter out the window or on the ground period even when i used to smoke cigarettes i would put them out, make sure they were out and i would put them in my pocket until i reached a trashcan or somewhere i can put them...

I don't see a exact relation throwing food and shit on the ground..
If i have a banana peel i will throw that out the window or an orange peel but not in someones yard.. If i have left over food like part of a sandwich i won't throw that out the window... kids go walking about and stuff don't want them to try eating it or something.. so i always save that for when i get to a trash can...

And i don't know why you would have a spitball anyway.. The last time i saw anyone with spitballs and they were like 11, 12 years old... boogers? I have seen plenty of people snot, empty their nose on the ground but i feel thats why they make tissue.... for a good reason..

But anyway. Consumption beyond what is truly needed always becomes a question of how much you are willing to pollute.

I don't throw anything out the window or allow my passengers to do so. Around here the only ones I've seen littering are tourists and transplants who haven't been educated yet.

    Littering is wrong.

An Apple core, a banana peal thrown out of a window into an open field (not a house, not in a city, and definitely on the side of the road so an animal won't get run over while eating it).

But littering of any kind is lazy, is disrespectful of the earth and your fellow citizens, and is just plain wrong.

It's one of my 'things'-I really lose respect for people who litter

so throwing a piece of fruit

back onto the ground from whence it came

    is wrong???

    i feel littering is acceptable

if done with respect to common etiquette.

I don't throw stuff out of my car...

I keep it until I get home and throw it into my own yard.

Consider your own effluent. Even though it is biodegradable, the degrading process produces a certain amount of toxicity. Pollution happens when local activity outpaces the local regions ability to recycle waste. When you overeat, you suffer.

I'll toss aluminum cans out, but there's an army of people around here that collect them and turn them in for money.

I don't throw stuff out the window of the car but if hiking and I am eating something that will compost down I root around with my boots and bury it. Anything else I bring home and dispose of.

To be honest as a family we generate far too much garbage/waste. It is something that we need to work on.
