alright, I just wanted to throw a poll in this subforum.... so what's your favourite knitting medium?
I've been doing a lot of items for work at the mill out of alpaca. It's one of my favorite fibres....sooo soft!
I make many hats (340 so far) and I have a limited selection of materials, but I use Lions Brand Wool Ease (80% Acrylic-20% lambswood)for most of my hats because I love the heathered colors, and it feels good, and is easy to crochet with. I enjoy 100% wool alot too, it is harder for me to come by, but it is so warm and feels so real. I make cotton hats for children with Lilly Sugar and Cream(???), and it is great for kid hats. I love yarn, most yarn, except maybe shiny synthetics, and red yarn. I can't seem to crochet with red yarn, just doesn't inspire my hands to move.( only fire engine red affects me that way.)
I must admit I only recently started using shredded plastic bags and shredded shirts to knit and crochet new items.... I got the idea from a friend, found a few patterns, and started creating.... although I do use all sorts of yarns, recycling already existing materials from around my house has made some very original things!
Ooooh, a lady who works in my school's office raises alpacas. She just recently shaved all their wool off and took it to get spun. She's trying to sell it, and I want some sooo bad. All natural, non-dyed alpaca yarn. Le sigh.
my new favourite brand of yarn to use is called The Cat's Meow, although I'm having a hard time finding it because I think it's no longer made.... but nonetheless I love how it looks, all varigated, and excellent colours, and despite the fact that it's 65% wool, it's not itchy at all. My bragable project: the scarf below. I'm in the middle of making another pocket scarf like it in different colours for myself, this one's for sale at my e-store... http://stores.ebay.ca/Knits-Yours-Knot-Mine. Yay varigated yarns, so nice...
There's this stuff in Zellers. It's acrylic I'm sure, but it's a certain type that is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo soft. It's Bernat brand, but it's called "so soft" or something like that. It's amazingly soft. My roommate's using it right now to knit a red sweater. So far it looks so awesome, and it has some really nice weight to it.
That is a beautiful scarf! I like several different yarns. Joannes has a wool that is quite soft and when it is on sale I pick some up. Usually I use acrylic or blends, like Lion Brand's Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. I hate working with cotton-weird I don't know why it just seems more difficult but I had to make a pot holder for my sister for her birthday. I really loved Lion Brand Chunky USA so of course they discontinued it! sigh
