What's wrong with today's youth?

How long does it take to get a counter culture rebellion to this war started? Haven't enough kids died? Does today's youth like killing? It was once said, "If it doesn't get on the news then it didn't happen. Come on kids, show us old farts how it's done. Or do we have to give you lessons. Remember when G.W. Bumbass wanted to start this war in the first place? All of those demonstrations on the coast? That's how you show civil discontent.

We need to show today's youth a renewed sense of national pride.

Did anyone besides me hear Bumbass's speach a couple of weeks ago where he talked about increasing the size of the military, especially the Army and Marines?
Ever since the Iraq invasion enlistment quotas have not been met. In order to fufill the mandate the draft will be required to be reinstated, and this time it could go as high as 32 year olds, or higher according to some enlistment friends of mine.

Kids, get ready to say good-bye to relatives, friends, and lovers, FOREVER.

Get off your asses and make some noise.

i think youre' sitting in front of what is wrong with today's youth. i have a scary vision of a future where people won' talk to each other unless it's through some kind of machine. i was at a coffee shop the other day and there were 4 kids sitting together. they were ALL talking to somone else on their cell phones. hell they might have been talking to each other on the phones for all i know while sitting a few feet away from each other. but this remote communication thing whether on phone or on computer has taken the humanity out of communication. we started the anti-war movement through speaking to each other..at school/college, at coffee houses, concerts etc. the passion of the face to face coming together of people in the same time and place is missing. and kids have become even more isolated by this. they can talk to anyone in the freaking world in seconds but if you're sitting alone there in your room it's not the same as being with a large group of people and being inspired to act. that kind of inspiration is contagious but only when you are caught up in the moment and encouraged to act as a group.

Well I dont know what coast your on, but the government here has sucedeed in keeping people too paranoid to even talk to eachother in stores and in the street. Colorado is way different atleast, thats the only place Ive been thats better. I guess the farther you get from DC the better? I participated in one at school, but honeslty havent done anything else. I have however participated in many other counter-culture events, and that is a big part of it, not just open-protest.
I think a main reason is this computer. Most kids can just sit here and bitch and not start a revoloution. I think the internet is a big reason, but then again it could help us organize. We are sensitised to it I guess, most kids dont suffer alot, they think losing their IPOD is suffering, you know? So they dont really care I guess..
Im not saying I plan on doing any war protests, although this thread is making me think more about it, but I will definately continue, in my own way, to not support the war machine and make an alternative lifestyle for myself and encourage others to do the same... drop out I guess?

we talk, and we are concerned.....I personally think we dont know how to go about it....old methods dont seem to work now, but I know that we are ready for a cultural revolution...

Plus, we are disconnected from each other..
and we are spoiled....
and have a blase attitude toward everything....

i am not a fan of my generation, and I think its getting worse with each new group


But i still look to my Elders (ie; you guys) to show us the way...you have the experience and knowledge

 

At the end of the day the people do not control america. All they really get to do is choose between two canidates who both really don't care about people. Simple protesting will go unheeded and ignored. Whatever the young do, nothing will change.

 

As we old folks remember,in the 60's there were only TV and phones to fool with.Now look what's available for people to play with and waste time on.No time to think about people getting killed somewhere.We are totally pacified,distracted and don't care.Unless it's personal like ones own son,grandson,ect getting blown up.I believe that's why whatsis name wants to start the draft .To make it more personal.Look--they have us right where they(you know who) want us.They can do anything they want to us and we don't care.Ship our jobs somewhere else,let our schools turn to shit,help the rich get richer,screw up the laws that help the environment,take away our rights(bye bye habeus corpus) reduce the middle class(the ones that do the actual work) and not give a damn about what happens to this country.I had hoped the repubs would capture the whole government--which they did-to show people the error of their ways putting these immoral,conscienceless bastards in office.Well-here they are.If people don't see now that they care not one fucking whit about this country and our constitution --I have absolutely no hope for my kids and grand kids.Humans are supposed to be so much more intelligent than the other sentient beings on this planet--and to my way of thinking ,that's just a sick joke.What is the other group of bastards(dems) going to do to further pacify us for a while?Oh--I suppose pass a few laws to make us feel like we've finally come back to using some common sense regarding these issues.ppppfffftttt.Mabye it's up to us old folks to get out and-------nah--fuckit---let's toke up and have another beer.Those 30,000 children that die each year don't have much to do with me.And those women raped and men killed in Darfur?Too bad they don't have any oil.Yeah---happy new year motherfuckers.

God Bless American youth. It's the youth who we should look to to save the country. It is the children. Children have no guile. Children teach adults how to achieve peace. The hippie youth of today are not quite children and not quite adults. They have the best chance of being listened too, if we as adults just listen to them. We have too. We must encourage young people all the time.

Good point. There was protest of war in the 60's yet we still battle them now!
60's really didn't make much of a difference. ( in terms of war that is)

 

In order to end war one must first end greed, hate, mistrust, fear, discremination,... and the list go on. Since we haven't ended any of the root causes of this horid disease, we can only treat the symptoms.
This time it's not L.B.J. it's G.W.B. same disease, different carrier..

 

Most people will not protest, unless something effects them personally.

 

I think it is not about protesting in the streets and national pride, but in everything that we do being one community. If we don't want war don't feed the needs that create them. People are being taken advantage of and it pisses them off and the only thing they can think of to do is to fight tooth and nail for what they believe in...if you take the root of that whole ball of pain out and everyone gets taken care of and the greedy f!@#$ piss off, you'd think we could all prosper and grow then. WE all have something that the others need, it could be win/win, but some spoiled little ego maniac just want it all and that's just not right...and we are letting him be a bully.

Perhaps rather than protest we just need more Truth? He'd take himself down, if people could just put it all together.
