Why haven't we had a female president yet?? Reason points to stupidity. Any actual reasons?

Cause one hasn't been voted in yet? Oh shit, in the name of political correctness we should give women who run 2 votes for every one they actually get!  Anyway, yeah probably the first thing I said.

    what are our options?

    Hillary, condi, feinstein, Oprah(lol)?

Hillary...not a shot in hell, has the stank of slick willy

    Condi...has the stank of bush

feinstein? dont really know much about her, but a california democract comes off as whacko as a mass democraft to republicans.

oprah...why would she take a pay cut and/or subject herself to criticism..she's everyone's favorite person.

so who really is left? Laura Bush? Dole?

Condi and Hillary are probably the two most qualified, intelligent, and capable women that i can think of to run for office. I think both suffer horribly with their connection to past presidents.

There are not nearly the selection of female candidates as there are male candidates.

I dont know why that suggests that there is something wrong with the US.

edit: do we become a 'better' country when a female president is elected? Even if she's voted in purely because she's a female? That's like voting only for white, male, protestants. When we elect GOOD leaders, we'll be a better country. The gender doesn't matter.

If gender really didn't matter, then we would have had a female leader by now. The fact that sooo many other nations HAVE had female leaders way before now, and we haven't, suggests that, yes, there is something wrong with us. And that we would be a better country if women were equal enough to be president, if all stereotypes were gone.

well, what female should have been president in the past..and say in the future?

and women have the legal ability to be president, does that not make us equal?

electing the MOST fit president makes us equal: electing a woman because she's a woman does NOT make us equal at all.

But electing a man only because he's a man doesn't make us equal either. Electing men simply because of tradition kills all progress that women have made.

Having a legal ability to do something isn't the same as having a realistic ability to do it. When african-americans first gained suffrage, they were 'able' to vote, but none of them could. Violence and threats prevented them from voting; ignorant traditions have kept a female from becoming president.

    I agree.

lets not even put the two in the same paragraph. They are not at all the same.

I'll ask again..what woman do you think is most fit to be president? What woman SHOULD have been president of this country?

Do note that women make up the majority of this country and i believe they vote in higher numbers than man. I really doubt women run for upper level political offices in the same number as men

    http://www.brown.edu/Administration/News_Bureau/2003-04/03-074.html

Women have as much success being elected as men but they are not as likely to consider running for office. A groundbreaking study to be published in the American Journal of Political Science found two major factors at work: Women are not as likely as men to view themselves as qualified to hold office, and they are not as likely to receive encouragement from party leaders to become candidates.

its an interesting read, i hope you read it. It might make you reconsider your beliefs.

“These results suggest that we are a long way from a political reality in which women and men are equally likely to aspire to attain high-level elective office,” said the researchers.- from your website

I completely agree. Yes, women can run for office, but they don't. Why don't they? Because society is still teaching women, to a signficant degree, that there are certain jobs for men and certain jobs for women. It is still that ignorant tradition of men being leaders and women being followers. That is not equality. While legally we are equal, we are still seen as socially inferior.

thanks for the article, coming in handy for my theory of knowledge class.

Why do you refuse to answer what woman should have been president or should be president? If you cant answer that basic question, i fail to see how you can complain. If you cant name a qualified woman, how can you honestly expect us to vote a female into the presidency?

where do you see that society is teaching women that governships, federal senators, house of reps, and other national offices are for men only?

And why are women socially inferior because they opt to run for local offices instead of national offices?

    How about Condeleezza Rice?

Its the way that we are taught to believe that women make better teachers than men. And that men make better construction workers than women.

Condi is brilliant and as sharp as any man in DC. I think that a lot of people would not vote for her because she is part of the Bush Administration.

Maybe i'm blind, but i just dont see "society" forcing men into certain political jobs. I agree that things like movies almost always portray male presidents which could reinforce an image of a male president, but that doesn't account for themajor lack of women at the lower-national offices. Why arent women making the jump from local levels to national levels? I think a lot of that can be attributed to the same reasons men are more likely to take jobs that are more demanding: women opt to be more flexible because of family commitments. I'm sure there are men who would never vote for a female and females who would never vote for males. I dont know how we could ever put an accurate figure on the % that do.

edit: if i had to make a guess, i think we'll see a latino male be the first non white male president.

See that right there is a stereotype that keeps women from being president. Why does a woman have more family commitments than a man? And what makes you think that men take jobs that are demanding?

    Just curious... why a latino?

why are you so insistent on making her tell you what woman would be a good president, as if doubting the possibility could exist. listen to what she is saying, not waiting for your turn to talk for god sake. she's wise for her years. they say the sexes are equal, and they also say white and black are equal, just because a few are wearing suits and shiny shoes and are smiling on tv. however that is a lie. when you get into the secret societies and such, there are no women allowed, and there is rabid segregation. thesee organizations are who run america.
    smile, you're on tv

I dont think it is a stereotype that women end up having more family commitments than men. More men are still the primary breadwinners than females. Females are more likely to stay home and take care of the kids than men.

These commitments will make it easier for men to pursue political office outside the local area.

as for the demanding jobs? Remember, it is the women who usually take off time to give birth and stay home with the child after they are born. Men, well, cant breast feed so are less likely to be the ones that stay home. I dont think it is wrong to stay that women opt for more flexible time schedules(less demanding jobs) so they can be home with the kids and stuff

Fully 37% of highly-qualified women voluntarily leave their careers for some period of time, and a further 58% take what we call a “scenic route” (a flexible or reduced-hour option). Indeed, fully 58% of highly-qualified women describe their careers as non-linear.

    http://www.globalagendamagazine.com/2006/Hewlett.asp

Latinos are now the largest minority in this country and they are continuing to grow at a very fast rate. The influence of Latinos will only grow tremendously in America and you can only look at top positions that are/have been filled by latinos such as Attorney General.

Stereotype or not, latinos(especially cuban-americans) are very driven people.

Because, if you cant name a qualified person, how can you expect a female to be president? Ditto for the past. If you cant name a female that SHOULD have been president, how can you be upset that we've not had a female president?

i was feeling ya till you got to the secret societies part. I'll leave the illuminati/skull and bones conspiracy stuff to someone else.

I'd make one hell of a good President. I'd nurse my toddler during the State of the Union address... Lots of good women would make good politicians, but becoming a politician is dirty, nasty, underhanded work, not for honest and good-hearted folk.

What difference does it make who runs? The masses believe what the media tells them to believe, and the rich and powerful put whoever they want into office.

That's a stereotype about politicians... and it prevents progress from being made.
