What's with the rainbows??

OK, I have a question. Please understand that I am not prejudice. I am a very peace loving person. I don't understand why the symbol for gay people is the rainbow. Why is it? I don't have a problem with gay people, except that. Being hippy, I've always liked rainbows. Now if I want to wear a shirt with a rainbow or rainbow jewelry everyone thinks I'm gay. Nobodly likes being misjudged, and I just feel cheated that I can't wear what I want without someone saying, " Oh, that's cute, are you gay?"...(No) "Why are you wearing a rainbow then?"...(Because I Fucking like rainbows dammit). It's just annoying that's all. Anyway, I'd just like a reason for it at least.​

well I don't know why the rainbow but I think it might be because the rainbow sort of symbolises to me that we are all part of the same thing I mean that everyone should be respected and loved that is a good person reguardless of there sexuality, and the rainbow is a has all the colors in the spectrum and all the colors are important. However wearing rainbow stuff should not automatically make people assume you are gay. That's just a steriotype. Although when I want to make sure ppl know that I am gay I wear rainbow stuff.
Now the pink triangle was from WWII it was like the yellow star of David that Hitler made the Jewish ppl wear. Hitler made homosexuals or suspected homosexuals wear the upside dwon pink triangle on there sleeves I believe.
If this is wrong information I would like if someone would pm me or something and make sure I get it right I would hate to look more foolish then usual I am doing the best I can to be honest and correct about things like that. I hope this helps, hugs gilli

I feel exactly the same way. The rainbow has been sorta stolen by the gay subculture and now if you want to associate yourself with it you'll be thought homosexual. It's unfortunate. And annoying. 'Cause rainbows are beautiful and cool, and should not be owned by any group for their identification. They should belong to everyone, and now they do not.

well to be honest I thought this was going to be a post about the "rainbow family " and why are there so many leeches in that sceene but ah well you now as I always say

rainbows make people such as yourself feel happy. gay means happy. so sybolic logic tells us you are gay tokinchick.

i understnad her its the same here in oz, and it is kinda annoying everytime u wear something rainbow or own someone rainbow people comment on it being gay!
and i dont want people to think im gay because im not! lol

Try some colourful hippie clothing with a rainbow on and take a pic for your gallery + I'm sure you'll get an opinion or 2 . I don't think you'll look gay lol.

But I know what is meant. The way to do it is with the Whole image. E.G, have a rainbow going through a skulls teeth on a denim cut-off etc . Don't think I'd look gay in one ha ha.
