I'm just curious. One of these days I want to go far north into Canada, like to Nunavut or the Northwest Territories.
furthest north? edmonton. bleh. twas in the middle of a snowstorm and the only thing i saw was the inside of the airport. lol i'd love to spend a summer in the yukon. or maybe a weekend in the winter just to see the northern lights. or maybe the grand prairie area. but only in the summer. i cant deal with crazy ultra-frigid longnighted neverending northern winters.
i live in edmonton, been as far north as High Hevel though. its about a 10 hour drive north from edomonton high level is about as about even in latatude as with say Fort Nelson, or Churchil. the cold isnt that bad, you get used to it. but after a few weeks of -30, if it sudenly warms up to neer freezing with a chinook or somthing, it feels like summer
HAHAHAHA!!! nope, i dont get used to cold. i've done a few prairie winters (canadian and american) and i really have to say, nope, i'll never get used to -40 with wind chill.
I used to live in Goose Bay, Labrador for several years...very chilly there, but hot in the summer. I have also visited Whitehorse in the Yukon. I have a friend who just moved to Inuvik in the NWT. Its sunny night and day there right now. I didn't mind the cold too much, you just get used to it after a few years. Got my nose frostbitten once though, walking to school. The only thing to remember is to plug in your car...it will not start in the winter otherwise, lol.
god ya cars and extreme cold do not mix well at all. even with my car plugged in i used to have car damage from the cold. door handles would freeze and break. rad hose froze once from the cold. turn signals would break on me all the time. one place that i lived, i had to have a battery warmer plugged in ANd the block heater plugged in whenever the car wasnt running. i'd love to experience THAT~!
I was born in Chibougamau, which is like 900 kilometers north of Montreal. Let me tell you, you don't want to be there during the winter. Sometimes you'll see snow falling in may, and even in some rare occasions in june.
The furthest north in Canada I've been is Dawson City and Old Crow in the Yukon. I've been to Deadhorse and Barrow, Alaska...Barrow being the furthest north I've been anywhere.
Up around Algonquin park. Absolutley beautifull country up there. I'm hoping to go further up into the interior this fall to see the colors.
I don't know who out there can beat me....but me and my family made it all the way to the Arctic Circle, yup, im talkin 60 degrees north......
