What's it like being high? i've always wondered, and i want to try it first hand, but i'm scared. i'm not really sure waht of, but oh well. none of my friends smoke anything at all, so i can't ask them, and you all seem cool enough.

is there anyway to ingest pot besides smoking it? that seems so..icky.

relaxation, joy, euphoria, laughter, compassion, peacefulness, feeling of well-being, increased appreciation of music, art and colors, increased appetite...

you can bake with it, to avoid smoking.

it is the key to a door of perception. it should be respected as such. it is not only just an interesting pass-time, but a doorway to higher spiritual perception!

the experience can range from euphoria to severe paranoia. if you choose to try it, it will open your mind, but be sure to plan your environment well. be in a place where you are totally comfortable, and with people you are totally comfortable with.

    it is a beautiful thing!

and btw, many people feel nothing at all the first time or two that they smoke. it's normal.

one thing is for sure, you will never have an inkling of what it is like until you try it!

    Peace Love Happiness

yeah, people tried to describe it to me (or I'd read things online about it's effects) but none ever came close to describing what it feels like. It just doesn't translate to words.

That said, nitemarehippygirl had some pretty good adjectives. I might add that it really gives you a great mind-buzz, you start thinking some crazy stuff. Very organic thought processes, like free association. You're whole body will be really sensitive to touch, in a good way. It feels good to dance too.

Gotta watch out for the paranoia though. Make sure you smoke in a safe place and are in a good mood, and relaxed. If you still get paranoid, just keep in mind that it's an effect of the drug sometimes, and that it's just in your mind.

Jointman makes a good point, too. Don't do it if you feel pressured to. If you want to, hey, I'm not one to stop you, but make sure it's what YOU want to do. It will probably make it a better experience.

Marijuana lets you think and feel from a first person point of view the free and unchanged stream of conscience that issues through your mind, from the innermost workings out through the ego. When you are high, you are wading in the midst of the stream you usually float down. You are allowed, for a time, to put your feet down and watch it all pass by and examine it and see it and feel it go by; as opposed to being an inanimate leaf floating down with the current, with no ability to steer yourself.

    heres the fact:
you cant describe waht being high is like.
no one has ever done it.
you jsut have to TRY it
caus the ONLY bad effects of weed occur when you do it often.
otehrwise its practically 100% safe and healthy.
unless youve got small lungs and are a serious asthmatic. in which case eating is the way, caus that actually is 100% safe.

the adjectives and stuff are key words that only drug users can actually understand. people whove not tried drugs before wont have any idea waht they actually mean.

but anyway, smoking isnt as bad as you might think. caus u dont smoke that much smoke, compered to cigarettes or something. you get used ot it pretty quick.

a lot of people get turned way off after smelling a bong lol, but thats jsut silly

for your first time it's gonna be like a big laughing fit, then your gonna find amazement at the little things and swear that random objects look like faces to you and then you'll begin to laugh again.

when u r high the enviorment around you affects you more.... so if u r gonna smoke do it a a nice place where you will feel safe, and if u r gonna do it with other people, do it with people you trust.... music is a must... if u r gonna smoke put on some music depending on the way u feel.....

I have noticed that when I am high my attention span decreases, but at the same time when I focus my mind on ONE GOAL, and only think about ONE THING, i can see it more clearly than when I am not high..... When I look at paintings I just go detail by detail examening it, instead of just looking all of it at the same time like i would've done if I where not high.... when I hear music I focus on one instrument at a time, or sound.... its good

Yeah, the adjectives work well, but it really doesn't translate, Brandon's right. You really have to try it. If you smoke too much, though, like I've mentioned before, you can get really clouded and lethargic, so make sure you moderate.

I agree with the being focused on one goal, though. When I was learning to read sheet music, it took me about 4 weeks to read it at concert speed, whereas it took my sober friends about 2 years. Why? Because I focus on one thing, and the notes translate from the fretboard to the score very quickly when you're that intensely focused. It also helps me play for hours and hours. I didn't start playing 7-12 hours a day until I started smoking. If you're really into one thing, smoking will probably help you do that for hours.

The way it feels really depends on the genus and the species. I find that most of the species of Sativa give me a real head-high, makes me very philosophical, and a lot of the hybrid species between Sativa and Indica make me really philosophical, too. Most Indica species give me a real body-high, tingling hands, and a real need to simply veg. out. I actually enjoy the Sativa genus on average a lot more, because I'm not the type of guy who likes to veg. out and do nothing on a general basis. Sativa makes me more industrious, makes me want to play complicated peices one bar at a time, while Indica makes me want to put it down and go lay around and watch T.V. or listen to music. Indica strains can be good for a weekend warrior who's into just sitting around watching a movie. Music is intensified with most strains of either genus, and you'll begin to wonder how you'd ever been so hearing impaired when you were sober (simply because of the way it affects your parasymp. system). This can be a pretty bad thing, though, if you're listening to really old recordings of music. You'll begin to notice the most slightly out of tune guitar, bass or drum set, and the slightest out-of-pitch note sung. But, hey! We're in the age of Dolby, baby, and let me tell you, that stuff sounds great when you're high. My friend has a surround system, that's pretty killer when you're high. Star Wars in surround! lol Because of the way it affects your hippocampus, you'll become really sensitive to temperature, and will more than likely need to get a blanket, or turn up the heat, unless it's warm and you're outside. If you're as skinny as me, and you smoke in the winter, you'll be shaking like a car on bad gas, man. I like to smoke in warmer climates, anyway, so it works out.

A lot of it also depends on your expectations of the high. Your mind is the most powerful tool you've got. They say a high is 10% T.H.C. (active ingredient in Cannabis) and 90% mental, and while this may be an outdated phrase, it still holds very close to the truth. If you expect to be high, and think you're really high, you'll get a lot higher. Also, like I said earlier, paranoia, headaches, depressing high, they all depend on the strain. If you're smoking Texas ditch weed, don't expect it to be a really great experience.

You appreciate comedy more when you're high on certain strains (or, I guess, what you consider comedy at this point, I mean, I've ended up laughing for 10 minutes over a Snapple commercial that no doubt wasn't meant to be funny at all), you also apprecite art because it becomes less peripheral and more linear to you. You really think about the possibilities of what was happening to the artist, and you look at the picture and transfix yourself into that period for a moment (not literally, but this is hard to explain, really). I can't explain this perception anamoly, except that it's really intense. You also look yourself in the mirror on good stuff, and feel as though you're someone else, looking yourself in the face. It's pretty wild. Sometimes I'll watch my Queen:Live at Wembley, or AC/DC at Buddokan, and I feel like I'm sitting right in the crowd. That's really awesome! I can honestly say I've seen Freddie Mercury, or Bon Scott perform live before they died, and it's really the truth to me, it becomes that real. The rest that happens can't be translated onto the paper, so I'd have to just let you experience it for yourself.

Not to be a downer but, on bad stuff, if you don't invest in good stuff, smoke it at too young an age and smoke it for way too long, you can get extreme psychosis. Symptoms include lowered self-esteem, an inability to trust anyone, not even those with whom you otherwise feel comfortable, and feeling uncomfortable around freinds or other relationship ties and feeling disgusted by them as human beings and becoming incredibly jaded with life, to the point that a nothing means much to you at all. This can also happen if you drink, or do any drug at too young an age, much too often. I've actually gone through mild psychosis like that when I was younger. New guitars meant nothing, I hated people and questioned their value constantly. I don't deal with the ditch-weed anymore, and I don't do coke anymore, for precisely those reasons. Fortunately, you can overcome psychosis that mild. The moral of this story is,... learn to look at a strain and know it's value and it's close relation (you don't have to know the EXACT strain) and then simply know to invest in good Marijuana. Generally the best stuff is a lighter green, sticky (if it sticks to your wall or your fingers and doesn't fall off, it's pretty high-grade) and often has red, purple, or blue hairs on it. If your stuff is almost blue in color and thick in texture, it's safe to assume you've got some CO. Blueberry which I've only had the good fortune of experiencing a few times in life, because it's pricey. Some poeple can't handle a primo high anyway, and sometimes it does nothing for them. Middle-of-the-road stuff should be your best bet. Just look for a light green color, and sticky stuff, and you'll do okay.

::Another tip: Don't smoke out of any wooden pipe if you're going to smoke, as it has much higher potential for causing lung cancer:: If you eat the Marijuana, your high won't kick in for about 45 minutes, but it's pretty good when it does. It's much more intense because of the fact that Marijuana is fat soluable and you've just digested the shit. lol
Also, when you begin smoking, realize that you're going to be in the minority, and you're going to have to deal with drug tests, and disrespect from people who know you're doing it, as well as the risk of being arrested and paying a hefty fine, possibly. You have to come to terms with the fact that you're in the minority or you really aren't going to be able to smoke without feeling guilty. What you're doing is only wrong insofar as it's illegal, remember that. If you can't handle being a 'criminal' don't do it. And for Christ's sake, if you're going to smoke outside, don't smoke on a park bench or in plain sight, if you do and you're arrested, don't bitch about it. lol

I realize this is a long post, but when've you known the Musicman to be short-winded? I hope this helped, bud!

as i'm posting, i can say that it feels like being in a dream... not that i'm going to fall asleep, but that i'm slowly looking around, slowly listening to the music, sort of just accepting everything and being content with it.

quick and simple recipe for eating marijuana:

take two saltine crackers and coat them nicely with peanut butter.
grind about 1 bowls worth of weed up and put it on the peanut butter
take a little bit of butter or margarine and put it on top of that.
make a cracker peanut butter sandwich
bake in the oven at about 300 degrees for ten minutes
    eat it up!!!!!

    yum yum yum!

it will take a while for the high to kick in but with only one bowls worth it will get you nicely stoned without getting you too far gone. experienced weed veterans should try this technique too. the only method for eating that i know of that is quicker is to zap margarine with weed in the microwave and put it on some popcorn. it's not a taste sensation, but it will get you high like a mofo.

you shouldn't be scared about smoking weed....the first time I ever smoked I had never even been drunk, I was a complete goody goody and neurotic as well...the first time I tried it I was with some friends going to the fair when the pulled out a joint. I was hesitant but I tried it. I talked a lot, laughed a lot, and ate a lot, and it was a great experience. Good luck! And remember after you do try it, post your experience. you never know....it could change your life.

MusicMan, I hear that on the high being 10% THC...may not be the exact number, but I do know that i've been getting quite high on very small amounts of weed, and I'm smoking middies, nothing particularly wonderful. Two hits and I'm good, which amazes me. And also, later when it's wearing off, I can just settle into the effects I'm still feeling and I'm suddenly high again. It's far out.

Also interesting that you mention "transfixing yourself" to the art period or concert or whatever. I've been noticing this lately. Say I'm watching TV; I'm able to identify with the character more easily and I believe this is what makes comedy funny. The joke is never funny when it has to be explained, but if you're, in a sense, becoming one with the person the joke is aimed at, you get it automatically. It's like when I'm high I can so easily put myself in the other person's shoes (even if I'm watching cartoons, haha) which makes the humor better, plus it's probably the reason weed makes you peacful towards everyone. It reminds you that those people out there are REAL humans, just like yourself.

And I'll tell you what, South Park is 10 times better when you're watching it high. I'm convinced it was meant to be viewed that way.

Wow. What MusicMan said. I reached a period of mild psychosis several years ago and I just gave up everything for about five years. I'd never even thought about the fact that I started smoking when I was 13 on an almost daily basis. Essentially I grew up stoned. It worked to lay it all down and recoup. Now I smoke again and I've found that I actually truly enjoy being high again. And yes, Thank god for modern sound systems! Man oh man, I reeeeeallly dig the music when I'm high.
