In the United States a group, The Liberal Ladies Who Lunch, have called on women to go on a sex strike next month to highlight the need for the costs of contraception to be covered by health insurance and to protest the proposed legislation in Arizona that would empower an employer to sack a woman for taking the pill to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.

So what would you say to your wife if she said she was on a sex strike?

My friend Karl claimed he's response would be: “‘I thought you were already on sex strike! Weren’t you?”

Tell her you're on a toilet seat strike. Because, you know, it's physically impossible to put the toilet seat down without sex.

    that's what's going on, OP's on a replying strike.

i would tell my wife that she's being an idiot; i have nothing to do with making the laws so punishing me over it is pointless and does nothing to change anything.

It's a shame that a wife would be that way -- when there are women like me who
WANT sex -- and it's hard to find a fitting situation to suit my needs and she won't
give it up to a man who wants to.
The thoughts of having an affair with a married man and 'fixing' things for him
have always turned me on. I've never done it though.

meh, been in a similar situation... and the solution is pretty easy (if ya got the willpower lol )

respect yer partners sex strike... be loving, caring, supportive and all that kinda malarky.

the second your partner ends their sex strike, start your own ... keep to it, it may take a while but eventually your partner will pack a bag, move out and find someone else fookin' desperate enough to want to share their life with an idiot who thinks that sex is something that should be used as a bartering tool :)

    Okay, I'll jump in here..
I guess the idea is that after days or weeks without sex, frustrated husbands would write angry letters to their legislators demanding that the government force insurance companies to start covering the cost of contraceptives?
Sounds a bit like wishful thinking on the part of the activists, not that I disagree with their goal.

Seems to me that the cost of contraception is less than the cost of pregnancy and child care, so wouldn't enlightened self-interest dictate that companies pay now rather than pay later?

Perhaps the main issue involves employees of Catholic churches and church-agencies and hospitals?

The Catholic church actually does not have a position against limiting family size, but unfortunately the Church teaches that only the rhythm method of contraception may be used to do limit family size. To me, it seems like a logical inconsistency to forbid medications that achieve what a somewhat ineffective but permitted technique also achieves.

So is there any hope of the Church's doctrine catching up with technology?

Until (if ever) the Catholic church fixes their misguided directives, the government should pay directly for contraception.
The economic incentive to pay for it is so compelling that I can't imagine that secular healthcare providers would not pay for it.

I can't see it having any effect, to be honest. After all, those women who are really fanatical enough to take part in the strike probably don't have that much sex in the first place, so it wouldn't make much difference, whereas the majority of women often have just as healthy a sex drive as their partners, and would have to deny themselves the pleasures.

They may 'claim' to be participating in the Sex Strike when it comes to public protests, but when it comes to life behind closed doors, I suspect everything will be much as it ever was.

Apparently Anal Sex is still illegal in many US states, but do you really think that stops anyone? Not so many people would be likely to admit to it, but you can be sure it goes on.
