I was just wondering guys, wat was your favorite bf trip/hike/walk? mine was when i went biking in a forest trail (wearing sandals), and when i got far into the woods i slipped my sandals off and enjoyed the whole lot of different surfaces nature had to offer for 1 hr! (leaves, moss, logs, streams, muddy puddles, mud, soil, etc). so wat was your fav barefoot walk? im keen on hearing everything uve got to say!
Mine would have to be in the rain forest in mexico.I don't know the exact place but there was caves that i walked threw and huge trees. It was awesome.
Mine is the hike to a small islet off the coast here. It offers everything from Limestone forest to scrubland to pebble beaches to large, smooth boulders, sand and very rough "razor coral" rocks. A great workout all around, breathtaking scenery and a large, beautiful natural pool full of brilliant tropical marine animals at the bottom, ready for a refreshing swim, plus a subterranean cavern filled with clear, cold brackish water that leads out onto a coral shelf and the open ocean. I'll post a link to a photo gallery here in the next couple of weeks, following my next trip there.
I guess mine would have to be Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. Chaco Canyon was a major center of Puebloan culture between AD 850 and 1250. I liked it because it was/is a very primitive camp site, no paved roads to the park, no potable water, no RV hookups. I walked all around the site barefoot. It is a desert area, but not sandy, kinda like smallish pebbles. visiting the ruins barefoot helped with the uniqueness of the trip.
Chaco Canyon is a GREAT barefooting experience! My wife and I went there while visiting New Mexico in 2004 for a friends wedding in Los Alamos. It was August and the temperature was close to 100 degrees, but the packed dirt trails were cooler than one would think. A few fellow tourists were alternately shocked and disbelieving that one could actually walk barefoot when it was so hot out. My standard reply for the occasion was "the Anasazi who lived here certainly didn't wear Nikes." That usually stopped them in their tracks and gave some perspective to it all. Walking those ancient trails and entering the great kiva while touching the earth as the ancients once did was an unparralleled, nearly mystical experience.
My favourite hike was the "King's Worthy" hike with the UK barefoot hikers. There was six of us, starting from the village of Kings Worthy (near Winchester). We went straight out onto the country footpaths, there was some forest, some across farms (with big scary cattle) and lots and lots of mud! We got some funny looks (it was early March, a bit cold and wet), but no comments.
If I had to pick one barefoot walk, it was in September 2000, when I arrived in the southernmost parts of Germany on the late evening, after a train ride of over ten hours in order to reach the site of a regional Rainbow Gathering. The train terminus was on the southern shore of the lake Chiemsee, and my destination was a few kilometres off the northern shore. All in all, it was a walk of about 20 kilometres along the western lake shore I was facing. Instead of looking for a place to sleep, and perhaps take a bus to the village I was bound to, I decided to make that walk part of the "coming home" process, which is involved when leaving Babylon to get to the Family. So, I walked overnight, on the road or the grassy bits at the roadside, traversing the distance from village to village. Since it was a rather rural area, there were no ligths whatsoever at the roadside. The sky was overcast, and an occasional drizzle was providing refreshment. It was a rather warm September, so I had decided to pack no shoes whatsoever when going to the gathering. After arriving at the Gathering the next morning, all callus on my soles was gone, to leave only the leathery skin on my soles. My calves were feeling a bit sore from the muscle strain of that longish hike. However, during and after the Gathering I felt, that this barefoot hike was a strong and wonderful part of the whole thing. Peace, Love and barefoot bliss, ~*Ganesha*~
i went for a barefoot bareback horse ride a while back that was really nice. i wont do much of that anymore though unless its on a super calm horse lol, she stepped on my foot when i had to get off and lead her (she was scared of a mini poodle) and it hurt like a bitch. i knew id would be a bad idea...
Mine isn't any particular place. I mostly enjoy leavin' footwear home and go in a place i've never been before, best of all if it's far and i've got to stay there for awhile. Oh, and then there is the place I visit in dreams...
A bit of a resurection of an old thread. I finally got around to bringing my camera on my favorite hike and have posted a select group of pictures to share with the group: Barefoot Hiking in the Northern Marianas I tried to feature the vast variety of surfaces available on this hike; from soft, damp jungle trail to sharp coral rock. A few scenic views are shown as well. Enjoy!
Mine favorite was hiking to the top of Loon Mountain in New Hampshire barefoot, then at the top engraving my name in the wood deck of the lookout at the top. Being barefoot anyplace is always considered a favorite.
Hey, big16feet! Glad you like them! There are other great trails in this region as well; next time I go on a hike, I'll be sure to bring my camera and take some more since they are appreciated.
