Joe Biden is loquacious, and tends to go off on a riff. Taken in context, the guy didn't say what the conservative blogger you were reading said.

But a politician running for VP should know better. People have short attention spans and think in sound bytes. Biden needs to tailor his speech to the sound byte society.

Exactly. If Biden had known all he knows now, ...

i think he got into a sitch where he didn't know the whole story until it was too late, and even he's disgusted by it all.

    Just a guess.

Yeah--- at least Sarah Palin is good to look at- they should hang nude posters of her along the bread and soup lines that are likely in our future regardless of which wins the dubious veep seat. That'll brighten the day a bit for a few that otherwise have nothing to look forward to.

    Sound bytes suck, transcripts rule.

    excerpt,
"And here's the point I want to make. Mark my words. Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy. And he's gonna have to make some really tough - I don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it's gonna happen. I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate. And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you, not financially to help him, we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right. Because all these decisions, all these decisions, once they're made if they work, then they weren't viewed as a crisis. If they don't work, it's viewed as you didn't make the right decision, a little bit like how we hesitated so long dealing with Bosnia and dealing with Kosovo, and consequently 200,000 people lost their lives that maybe didn't have to lose lives. It's how we made a mistake in Iraq. We made a mistake in Somalia. So there's gonna be some tough decisions. They may emanate from the Middle East. They may emanate from the sub-continent. They may emanate from Russia's newly-emboldened position because they're floating in a sea of oil."
After again touting Cantwell's judgment, Biden told the crowd to "gird your loins."
"Only thing I'm asking you is, you know, gird your loins. We're gonna win with your help, God willing, we're gonna win, but this is not gonna be an easy ride. This president, the next president, is gonna be left with the most significant task. It's like cleaning the Aegean stables, man. This is more than just, this is more than - think about it, literally, think about it - this is more than just a capital crisis, this is more than just markets, this is a systemic problem we have with this economy."

    Source.

Would this be a sound byte too ?

Context matters, and you and whatever source you used declined to include what was said just before.

Yes it's a sound byte. It's just a longer than your arm, Joe Biden soundbyte.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid dude. Nothing is so easy and wrapped up. Sure would be nice if things were that easy, but they ain't.

If we were to believe the McCain campaign's latest ad, we could simply avoid international crisis or attack by voting McCain, because he's so tough and good that no one would attack us. Please. We will face some kind of crisis in the early days of the next presidency no matter who gets elected, or we won't. Who we elect will not affect that. Biden's point was that Obama is not a panacea, not the messiah, and life is not going to magically turn to sunshine and roses if he is elected.

We need to work together as a country to address problems, not just elect the right leader.

Any new president is tested by the world. This is a non-point. McCain has already shown us how he responds to crisis about this economic meltdown. What has he done to mitigate the damages? His campaign suspension and rush to Washington, bought his wealthy friends an opportunity to sell out and profit. He didn't offer a solution, he didn't sway the vote for his party, or his president and cabinet. At a time when perhaps things could have been mitigated. What happened was Republican's threw the solution out the window for a weekend or more, they gave they friends time to move their money. It's amazing to me how McCain latched on to this talking point...his brother can't even deal with a little traffic without calling 911.

Now we are supposed to view Obama visting his dying grandmother as an event to clear his citizenship. Try again McCain. Your crap about ACORN didn't work, and you had to admit he wasn't an Arab, but you didn't publically admit he wasn't a Muslim, so we can try and bring that in again by questioning his citizenship. And if all that fails we can plan a false attack on a white woman by a black man at an atm...not buying it.

Me too. Nothing Biden said was a gaffe except to the inexperienced part of the the McCain campaign that were just looking for talking points for Sarah Palin. Perhaps they should look at the talent they have hired. Doesn't seem to be working for them. Wonder what they are paying these wonder kids for? They haven't been delivering.

Perhaps they need another black attack on a white student, volunteer campaign worker, that might make their case.

Of course the new administration will be tested.

The real testing will be right here in America, from The Congress.

Whacking a few terror camps is easy.

How does one push back against the entrenched power interests in Congress?

How can you prevent The Burecracies from rolling you over?
