What the hell happened to our youth?

The Human Be-In 1967: People got together, peace and love filled the air, music and psychedelics flowed. And afterward, people cleaned up and went on.

Woodstock: People got together, peace and love filled the air, music and psychedelics flowed, a disaster area was declared, a generation was fulfilled.

In the 60s (and 70s) our youth protested bad government polices, bad college policies, for the environment, for civil rights, for women's rights, for the underpriviledged, and for an end to a horrible and useless war -- and WON.

Now, with much of the same going on constantly, WHERE ARE THE YOUNG PEOPLE? WHERE IS THE RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION?

Has protest been relegated to a t-shirt with a smart-ass remark printed on it?

Has the zeal of our young people been sapped by consumerism and commercialism?

Is it more fashionable to make fun of hardships and use one-liners to ignore our plight?

I am ashamed of our people. I am ashamed of myself. But, one person can't do it.

I can't carry all the weight on my shoulders, nor can anyone else.

    Where's the sense of community?

I've seen things change even here in the Forums. Even in the past two years.

Is HipForums becoming "Teen Angst" Forums?

My advice to young people is: STOP BITCHING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, AND GET OUT THERE, JOIN TOGETHER AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

It's only going to get worse, guys. It's not going to continue the pace where you can all be lazy and apathetic.

Things will get nasty and you will either wake up and watch your lives as you know it go down in flames.

I know I am merely talking to air here, beating my head into a tree. But, if someone, somewhere out there is listening ... we need to do something N-O-W.

We can't continue to allow Bush and his cronies to run roughshod over everything, we can't continue to allow the Democrats in Congress to continue being ponyboys and doormats for this right-wing FASCIST COUP!

WHY AREN'T WE MARCHING ON WASHINGTON D.C. ?

WHY AREN'T WE SHUTTING THIS SYSTEM DOWN BY CUTTING THEM OFF AT THEIR ROOTS?

    Where are the boycotts?

    Where are the strikes?

Where is THE YOUTH OF AMERICA?????????

Right here! There are marches in DC but I agree not enough!! I would go every weekend if there were other people. And I boycott a lot of stuff, I try to do everything I can but its hard to find people I know that care as much as I do. But I'm definitely up for almost anything to stop this madness and spread love and peace and positivity!! And I do what I can...

I agree we need to come together and do something about it. People just don't care anymore it seems. We need to come together!!

If you have any ideas for what I can do let me know!

the youth were led to get together before

they are led to idolize sex and money now.

it is not the fault of the youth, so much as the fault of the media

    Yes. It can happen.

We have already found out that at least three or four of us here are willing.

The next step is to unite in some fashion.

Anyone interested PM me. We will start IMMEDIATELY!

Most of the youth are solidly occupied with game systems or absorbed by what's playing on the brain atrophy box (TV) to be the slightest bit concerned with what's going on in the real world. Almost to the last person, human rights issues and illegal wars, etc will be someone else's problem until the person gets directly affected by them. This is why we need a military draft... it'll force people to confront the ill-advised foreign policies and hold those who supposedly represent us accountable for what they do (and don't do) once they get elected.

There many things anyone can do.

If we all got together in an email group or a HipForums group, we could share ideas.

I am full of ideas, just need others to help work them out.

Well as of right now, its a mess, especially in the major cities.
Peace and love just isnt on the agenda, and living in Philly,
murder captiol (represent!) tends to render most people
hopeless and left only caring for themselves and immediate
family, rather than seeing communities as big family.
BUT, I already see that the young kids right now are changing,
they are getting insanley smarter and less attracted to physical
violence and monetary greed. At least, thats my perception.
The control in terms of media is something that isnt going to
change over night, if ever, but as more and more people learn
about the lies, more and more people are questioning reality
itself and finding ways to rise above. Only, the ways right now
are personal gain, and the lack of family with the earth, all
of us children of God, is what needs to be taught, not
seperation in terms of class and religion, and it starts with
you. One person can make a massive difference with simple
loving words alone. But we f'd up, give the next generation
a chance because from what I see, its more than hopeful.

Let go of your personality and become a tool for loving
energy to flow into all who you meet, even enemies.
Any negative energy or thoughts you harbour WILL AND
DO materialize into reality, and you make manifest that
    which you conceal internally.
After all, as Buddha did say, all you are is a product of
    thought.
Think positivley, share love and selflessness, and you
    will see change very quickly.
In order for peace to exist externally in the world, first
the people individualy need to find peace internally.

In my opinion the last few generations are to blame for the problems of our youth today! It seems to me that money, sex and popularity, for a lack of a better term, is all the youth today worries about.
Has anyone ever watched the movie "Idiocracy"?
Many great scientists are spending thier time trying to figure out ways for irresponsible people to have sex without getting pregnant, or ways to prolong an erection instead of worrying about famine, garage heaps, disease and other important issues. What is that telling our youngsters?
who votes for the underdog anymore? who goes against the grain to stir up thoughts in our youths minds?
It seems that joining together and fighting for a cause is yesterdays news.. Instead people voice thier opinions but take absolutly no action in what they believe! And who blames them....
What happened to peace, love and fighting the man?
Lemmee see.... Peace------ will never happen. the world is angry, (especially at America,) and until everyone believes in one god this is a hopeless cause... Love---- Look at the increasing divorce rate... C'mon most of our older hippie parents are divorced what did that teach us? Fighting the man------ Most of our "hippie" parents are lawyers, doctors or working in some fucking cubicle kissing thier bosses ass for the fear of not being able to retire or security on income.....
All of us would love to see the world change and our youth to become active again. All that will take is the masses pushing off what we have been shown by our parents actions and thinking for our fucking selves! Fuck what society and what our general population wants us to believe. Seek knowledge and truth and teach your children the same!

When I say God I mean everyones point of veiw on God
collectively, or the choice not to believe. We need to
be tolerant of each others belief.
When I say Love Im not talking about man and woman,
Im talking about compassion, empathy, forgiveness and
acceptance, divine love. And that IS possible, but only
on a massive scale when massive people are suffering
and we care enough to help each other out.

Im not saying this is easy, but to say it will never happen?
Lethal that is the mind set, collectivley, which is preventing
the very manifestation of external noumena. We HAVE to
believe it can happen, and only then, collectivley, will it
happen. Its up to each of us to make it unfold

look at where there children are, yeah so why are the grand children of the flower children so radically different, when they the flower children of the sixties, are in control?

    /rant off

aye I agree with you this is just a topic that worked me up I guess.. the Law of Attraction is very real and can be used very powerfully to influence what you want it too. I was wrong for saying never, but the liklyness of people throughout the world joining hearts and minds for the same cause is slim.
