Has anyone ever seen it? It's a fantastic movie, and it gave a name, this so-called Metaphysics, to my thoughts and ideas conceived before I watched it. But I talked with a physicist about the film and he thinks the science behind it isn't very creditable. What do you think?
I remember watching about half of it and then getting kind of irked. If I remember correctly I think the irk came from them making quite a few arguments that didn't actually follow from their premises. They arrived at conclusions that were unsupported and required lots of additional assumptions. I can't give examples as it was a long time ago and I didn't finish watching it.
I understand... But I think their main point was to leave everything up to interpretation since science is all theory, and their theories are so outrageous it is hard for people to grasp.
I don't really remember getting that from it. I thought the point was something along the idea of anything is possible since quantum mechanics is true. That could be wrong though. I think a good movie to watch after "What the Bleep..." is "elegant universe." It will definitely give you a more scientific point of view as opposed to the sort of pop-philosophy offered in "What the Bleep."
I'm subjective to that one. Is that quantum mechanics or is that quantum physics with the empirical order of things in the skill of necessity? Now I ought to stop, as you know what I mean.
what i really liked in the movie, was the idea that a particle at the atomic level, could change its behavior simply by being observed in some way. That alone is proof that the universe is unpredictable. ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN!
i enjoyed the movie but its science doesn't seem that well grounded wiki: David Albert, a physicist who appears in the film, has accused the filmmakers of selectively editing his interview to make it appear that he endorses the film's thesis that quantum mechanics are linked with consciousness. He says he is "profoundly unsympathetic to attempts at linking quantum mechanics with consciousness."[18]
i agree with that. everything is connected, and every thought or action effects everything else down to the quantum level, but this philosophy should not be misrepresented as something that has been scientifically validated.
The Elegant Universe explains most of the theories mentioned in What the Bleep but on a much more detailed level its a great show, find it if you can
for sure it is pretty shallow, BSR, but it is a good and rather easy way to get into understanding super complex theories - in that aspect i like the movie. but i think once you watch elegant universe you are able to fill in a lot of the gaps that What the Bleep has in its plot/whatever
