Yeah, that's what I thought! But apparently, the US National Guard didn't find the idea as laughable as I. So I, in rebuttle, sent them a letter using their OWN "no postage nessecary" envolope! MUHAHAHA!!! Well, here is what I sent them: To the United States Army National Guard, Thank you for the invitation to join you in the United States Military; however, I would like you to know that I am a pacifist, and do not believe in the use of violence to solve political disputes. My opposition to this is political, religious and ethical, so I am not now, now will I ever be interested in joining any branch of the military. I choose to work toward peace by using peace. To put it quite bluntly, a war for peace makes about as much since as sleeping as an effort to get in shape. I agree with Mahatma Gandhi when he said "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". I also believe Jesus put it best when he said "Blessed are the peacemakers, they will be called the sons of God". There is nothing within me that can justify harming another person because our governments don't get along. I have never been in a fight before, and I do not plan on starting now. I wish you the best of luck in life, and I pray that our troops make it home soon and safe. However, I also pray for the safety of all those in Iraq and Afghanistan. I ask that you please do not send me any more offers to join the military, because of my many objections to the use of military force. Sincerely, (name typed and signed underneath)
They really don't care why you don't want to join... if you tell them you are not interested they will leave you alone. your letter probably won't be read
They leave you alone? That wasn't my experience...I had the Nat'l Guard on my ass for months right before I graduated.
That's what they always do right before you graduate. But most of the time I feel they really don't give a shit either way, so long as the job gets done/bonus incentives/promotion... Which means they'll lie to your face.
they all work on commission, i believe. probably not the best thing for recruiters of the armed forces
yeah. not that they really ever lied to me.... the job counselors will screw you over without even thinking twice about your future too, though.
the marines work at my school recrutiing people and the navy and army come towards the end of the year to do it
From my experience, that's what counselors do, if they're in some position other than crisis counseling. It took me three years before I got the one at my school to admit she hated the place and only took the job to move down South where shit was cheaper. Also admitted that nobody was really in control of the school much anymore because the state was so up in arms with them and the county was changing administrators like bats out of Hell... so nobody really cared, which is why someone in my class was stabbed, a pregnant girl went into labor from the stress/being hit/knocked over and whathaveyou, and I don't go there anymore. Plus it was overcrowded and the citizens of this county refer to the superintendent of schools as "The Dictator" when they write editorials in the newspaper--as he's more worried about square footage, fiddling with the budget, and buying new furniture for his office building.
Oh yeah, and the land that donated by a founding family of the county during the Washington/Jefferson presidencies for renovations/extensions/new school is being used to build another subdivision... because the loophole is that the Commonwealth of Virginia has to build and upkeep so much state road for subdivisions per year.
... So the goal is to create room for more families to move in so they can send their kids to a jacked up school? That makes a lot of sense...
I know it does. I guess that's why I left and made room for next year's group of heathens, once they built a new pos subdivision with $300,000-$400,000 spec houses with no wiring code. In fact, if you leave a pint of Jim Beam on the inspector's seat, he'll pass it for you. I know this because I've done residential wiring and HVAC/R work. And I guess that's why I live in the historic district of this 356 year old town. I live in the third or so oldest town in this country, yet nobody cares in preserving the place. Jamestown Island is all we've got left. Williamsburg is still semi-alright. "Schooling has never interfered with my education" - Mark Twain
I can't poke fun at that... Just sad that your town cares nothing about preserving such a rich history.
Queen Elizabeth and her family will be here in May and I volunteered several years ago to assist with whatever. My neighbors are re-enactors and I've been with the sons of confederate veterans for several years... and despite not being a daughter, I like helping Daughters of the American Revolution and random people like that with genealogy stuff at re-enactments or playing era music (and if they're not formal/big deals, you can best out the Johnny Cash or whatever) I just wonder what she thinks of this place.
